The Plastiki is a one-of-a-kind catamaran engineered from approximately 12,500 reclaimed plastic bottles and Seretex, an innovative, self-reinforcing PET material that is completely recyclable.
Led by acclaimed adventurer and environmentalist, David de Rothschild, the goals of The Plastiki Expedition are to raise awareness for the massive amounts of plastic debris polluting the world's oceans, and to explore re-thinking waste as a resource by demonstrating real world solutions and reprogramming the global community on how we use, re-use, and ultimately dispose of plastics.
For the past three months, The Plastiki and her intrepid crew have withstood a barrage of weather conditions as they have plotted a course across the Pacific. To ensure their eyes receive maximum protection against dangerous UV rays, including reflected light off the ocean's surface, crew members have been outfitted with Revo sunglasses that feature industry-best polarized lens technology. In addition, lightweight and durable frames built with Revo's Motion-Fit™ system provide all-day comfort and superior performance.
"The clarity of Revo lenses allows us to see a lot farther and reduces the strain and stress on our eyes, giving us the essential opportunity to spot other ships and marine life," says expedition leader David de Rothschild. "We're out in the sun 24/7. It's glaring and bright, and it's extremely important we protect our eyes."
In keeping with the eco-conscious spirit of the expedition, crew members have been wearing various styles from Revo's Eco Collection which features sunglasses made from either Revo Re-Use™, a frame material derived from 100% recycled pre-consumer polymer resins, or Eco-Use™, a sustainable material made from the seed of the castor bean plant instead of widely used petroleum-based nylons.
"The use of post-consumer materials, Revo's ethics, and the innovations behind using recycled plastic in frame construction is very important to me and is a big factor in the foundation of our partnership with Revo," de Rothschild says. "We're excited about these developments and the possibilities to work together in the future; to figure out how we can push the envelope even farther in creating more sustainable eyewear. Revo really is walking the walk, and we're excited to be a part of it."
