The brainchild of Adventure Ecology founder and noted environmentalist, David de Rothschild, at the heart of the forthcoming transpacific voyage is The Plastiki – a sixty-foot, one-of-a-kind catamaran made from 12,500 reclaimed plastic bottles and fully-recyclable plastic, self-reinforcing PET.
Skippered by Jo Royle with co-skipper David Thompson, the goal of The Plastiki Expedition is to draw attention to the massive amounts of plastic debris in the world's oceans, and to showcase re-thinking waste as a resource by demonstrating real world solutions to this pressing problem.
The legacy of The Plastiki Expedition will be its capacity to shift public thinking and perception from plastics as the enemy to how plastic can become part of the solution. To solve the marine debris and waste issues at large will require a reprogramming of how the global community currently uses, re-uses and ultimately disposes of plastics.
Throughout the estimated three-month long journey, the vessel and its intrepid crew will have to withstand Mother Nature's wildest forces. To ensure their eyes receive maximum protection against dangerous UV rays, including reflected light off the ocean's surface, crew members will be outfitted with Revo sunglasses that feature industry-best polarized lens technology and advanced, lightweight frame materials for all-day comfort and superior performance.
At Revo, sustainable and eco-friendly practices are a major initiative. This commitment to the environment is exemplified through the Revo Eco Collection featuring sunglasses made from Revo Re-Use™, a frame material derived from 100% recycled pre-consumer polymer resins, and Revo Eco-Use™, a sustainable take on traditional plastic made from the seed of the castor bean plant instead of widely used petroleum-based nylons. The result is an assortment of unisex performance sunglasses that are designed to have a big impact on the eyes, with little impact on the environment.
