ROCKVILLE, Md., July 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Visitors to retail clinics, those healthcare clinics inside a retail setting such as a CVS, Walmart or Walgreens, are more likely to be consumers of other products, including smartphones and smart speakers. And they are more likely to own a dog than the general U.S. population. This according to a new survey by healthcare market researcher Kalorama Information titled Retail Clinic Consumer Survey 2018. In the report Kalorama Information surveyed 2,000 U.S. adults through a web-based survey, among other questions they were asked if they visited a retail clinic. The survey pool was designed to mirror U.S. regional, income, age and education demographics.
Kalorama's survey found that 52% of those U.S. adults who have visited a retail clinic visit also owned a dog. This is higher than the overall survey of adults that showed 46% and other sources placing dog ownership at 44-45%. Also 36% owned a smart speaker device such as an Alexa or Echo, while estimates of Alexa ownership in the U.S. population generally average 9-11%.
According to Kalorama, these results are not a surprise.
"These are higher-income consumers," said Bruce Carlson, Publisher of Kalorama Information. "Although there was some thought in the beginning of the store clinic phenomenon that they might be a cost-saving function, it's not so much what it turned out to be. It's a time saver, and it's a value to these consumers."
The survey also found that clinic visitors are likely to have a physician and not think they will use the physician less, and that retail clinic visitors are likely to be satisfied with their visit.
"Those results are consistent with surveys we've completed of retail clinic visitors in past years," Carlson said. "Generally speaking, these are consumers who have a physician and are using the clinic for additional healthcare visits on top of their normal physician visit."
The Retail Clinic Consumer Survey report also contains demographics of retail clinic visitors and the reasons for their visits. Kalorama Information has reported on retail clinics since 2007.
