Rep. Fattah Says Private Sector Growth and Job Creating Programs Continue As Employment Report Shows Need for Improvement
WASHINGTON, July 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --Congressman Chaka Fattah, a senior Appropriator on the House Appropriations Committee, issues this statement in response to today's national employment report:
"The American economy needs to improve, as today's employment report shows. President Obama's proposals and actions can continue to move us in that direction, especially his jobs-creating legislation that has been blocked by politics, pure and simple.
"Even in today's report, we can't lose sight of the fact that this is the 28th consecutive month of private sector job growth. Over that span more than three million Americans have been going to work every day than before the Obama recovery began.
"I'm encouraged by the Obama Administration's steadfast commitment to putting people back to work, as demonstrated by sending $26.7 million nationally including $2,786,984 to Pennsylvania through a U.S. Department of Labor workforce development grant to provide on-the-job training opportunities to dislocated workers.
"These funds, channeled through the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry and similar state agencies, will enable employers to keep offering and to expand on-the-job training that leads to permanent employment for participants. Pennsylvania has consistently logged an unemployment rate that's better than the national average."
