Recovery Brands' New Verified Listings Badge Helps Consumers Easily Spot Legitimate Rehabs
The provider of digital addiction treatment resources is among the first in the industry to implement a verification process
SAN DIEGO, Feb. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- At a time when the addiction treatment industry is under close scrutiny for its business practices, Recovery Brands is making it easier for consumers to identify legitimate rehabs with its "verified listings" badge, a new feature on its flagship site Rehabs.com. In order to receive the designation, a treatment center must pass the company's new verification process. While submitting for a verification badge is voluntary, effective January 1, 2018, authentication of services rendered is now a formal requirement for facilities who also wish to utilize the company's paid marketing services through ClientReach.
"Making the decision to get help is a courageous step for those struggling with addiction but weeding through the magnitude of rehabs online can be quite overwhelming, especially if you're not sure what to look for," said Ruchi Dhami, director of market research at Recovery Brands. "In an effort to help these individuals distinguish legitimate treatment providers, we implemented our verified listing designation based on criteria similar to what the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration uses for its treatment locator guide."
The new verification process calls for treatment centers to submit the following documents:
- Documentation of licensure/accreditation/approval to provide substance abuse and/or mental health treatment from the state substance abuse agency or a national accrediting body (e.g., The Joint Commission, CARF, NCQA, etc.)
- Documentation that the facility's staff hold specialized credentials to provide substance abuse and/or mental health treatment services;
- Authorization to bill third-party payers for substance abuse and/or mental health treatment services using an alcohol or drug client diagnosis;
- A valid business license that confirms that the location listed has been registered with the state to legally operate;
- A comprehensive treatment plan overview, detailing services rendered at that particular location;
- Where applicable, licensure/accreditation/certification to administer medication-assisted treatment.
"Recovery Brands' verification process is well-needed considering all that has happened in the industry," said Samuel Kesaris, director of business development for Amethyst Recovery and New England Recovery and Wellness, as well as ClientReach client. "There have been a lot of treatment providers who've opened their doors only to make money running low costs with sub-par clinical care and not with the patient's best interest in mind. Having a system like this in place protects the individual and helps remove bad actors from the space."
The company will reauthenticate verified treatment facilities annually to ensure it is continuously providing its site visitors with the most accurate information.
"While our facility verification process cannot guarantee the quality of treatment provided or a positive treatment experience, those researching treatment options through Rehabs.com can be certain verified facilities have undergone extensive vetting to ensure they are reliable and credible," said Dhami.
