Recovery Brands Announces Bi-Coastal #GivingTuesday Initiative to Serve Homeless Communities
Employees band together and hit the streets of San Diego and New York with nearly 600 care packages
SAN DIEGO, Dec. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Recovery Brands, a provider of digital addiction treatment resources, today announced that its employees will assemble and deliver necessity items to local homeless communities of downtown San Diego and Manhattan. Through its initiative, the company intends to help a largely underserved population with a high percentage of individuals in need of addiction treatment.
Package recipients will enjoy pre-packaged food and clothing items purchased via monetary donations from the company and its employees. In addition to clothing and food items, individuals will receive information on local programs and/or facilities that aid the homeless in treatment for substance abuse, mental health or behavioral disorders. Information for community support groups and other general healthcare resources is also included.
"While not every homeless person struggles with addiction, the homeless population as a whole is largely marginalized and vulnerable when it comes to receiving quality treatment," said Jeff Smith, CEO of Recovery Brands. "In addition to restricted finances, they often lack access to means of even exploring or identifying viable treatment options. As a company that specializes in helping individuals and families to find addiction treatment, it is important that aside from offering physical aid to our communities, we also provide a list of treatment options for those who may be in need of it."
In San Diego alone, public data cited that nearly half of the unsheltered homeless population in 2015 suffered from a severe mental illness, alcohol abuse disabilities or substance abuse disabilities.
