Realtor Ken DeLeon Takes Top Sales Spot In The U.S.
Silicon Valley Broker beats adversity... and the market
PALO ALTO, Calif., June 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wall Street Journal and REAL Trends, Inc. today announced that Ken DeLeon of DeLeon Realty is the nation’s #1 real estate agent out of over a million agents with approximately $275 million in sales volume in 2011. DeLeon is still in his thirties and has only been a real estate broker for 9 years after leaving his law practice. DeLeon credits his meteoric climb to being the top agent in the nation to two things: the laser-like focus that follows two near-death experiences as well as his unique multi-faceted, highly sophisticated and innovative approach to sales.
Also instrumental in Ken’s coveted top position on the list is the robust Silicon Valley economy. This is the first year that a Silicon Valley agent has ever topped the national realtor rankings, which illustrates the strength of the tech industry and the myriad of other financial and legal firms that support it.
To fully know what drives Ken’s success, one must know Ken. He survived being run down by an under-the-influence driver, only to be recently diagnosed with cancer. He beat both. His is a resiliency born from challenge. And today, there’s not a challenge –real estate or otherwise – that he’s not ready to tackle. Ken states, “I do not fear death, I fear living a mediocre life.”
Many of DeLeon’s sellers come from the demanding population of Silicon Valley venture capitalists, Stanford professors, entrepreneurs and CEOs. For them, and all his clients, he uses statistical data and analysis to develop a detailed marketing plan for each home, with multi-media ad campaigns targeting an exact audience.
As for his open houses, DeLeon is second to none with catered lunches, lattes and extended hours. This approach attracts a crowd and, often, multiple offers.
For buyers, Ken creates neighborhood guides and videos complete with his predictions for future appreciation. Ken states that “clients deserve agents that will vocalize their projections.”
Additionally, Ken provides his Strategic Buyer’s guide with more than 200 pages of original materials that identify the best deals and approaches. “I use economic models and analysis to empirically illustrate which neighborhoods have the greatest appreciation potential. This sets our company apart from brokers who just show houses.”
DeLeon’s website features complete video tours of each house he lists as well as walking tours of Palo Alto neighborhoods geared for buyers coming from out of the area.
Before discovering his passion for real estate, DeLeon worked as an attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he honed his negotiation skills. An additional background in mathematics and economics enables him to successfully analyze and forecast real estate pricing, trends and outlooks for the San Francisco Bay Area market.
DeLeon attributes much of his personal success to his upbeat, positive outlook on life. He chronicles his two near-death experiences in his memoirs “Why Do Bad Things Happen to Sexy People?” DeLeon and his four children live in Palo Alto.
