CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 18, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Barings, one of the world's leading financial services firms, announced today that Joe Gorin has been named Head of Portfolio Management and Value-Add Investing in its U.S. Real Estate Equity Group (USREE). Gorin will be based in New York and report to John Ockerbloom, who joined Barings in 2019 as Head of U.S. Real Estate Equity.
In his new role, Gorin will be responsible for refining and implementing Barings' portfolio vision across client platforms with a particular focus on value-add investing strategies. Gorin will also join Barings' USREE Investment Committee.
Most recently, Gorin was a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs & Co and served as the co-head of Goldman Sachs Asset Management's Private Equity Real Estate Group (GSAM PRE). In this capacity, Gorin co-managed the U.S. Real Property Income Fund, launched GSAM PRE's first commingled value-add fund in 2019, and co-chaired the Investment Committee. A 25-year real estate investment professional, Gorin previously served as Managing Director and Head of the US National Portfolio at Rockwood Capital and prior to that was a Vice President at Equity Office Properties Trust.
"Joe Gorin is a seasoned and dynamic professional that brings a strong track record of achievement to Barings," said Ockerbloom. "I am excited to have him on board and look forward to Joe's leadership in strengthening our real estate business, with a focus on producing outstanding results for our clients."
Barings' USREE manages over $10BN* of assets across the U.S. including open-ended funds, closed-ended strategies, and separate accounts. With professionals in Charlotte, Hartford, Chicago, New York and Los Angeles, Barings USREE is invested across asset classes and styles including value-add, core, and opportunistic strategies. Barings USREE is a component of Barings Real Estate, which also includes the U.S. Debt business plus European Debt & Equity and manages total assets in excess of $40BN* in the real estate space globally.
Gorin's appointment is the latest in a series of recent leadership additions to the Barings USREE team. Earlier this year, Barings USREE announced the appointment of Philip Conner as its Head of U.S. Research & Strategy.
