Raw Material, the music and media charity based in Brixton, will return to Senegal'sFesta2h international hip hop festival from 14th-22nd June to represent the UK.
Following the success of their visit to Festa2h 2012, where their artists brought a welcome slice of London culture to the event, Raw Material will be sending an eclectic mix of talent to engage the 20,000-strong audience and collaborate with local acts. The line-up this year includes fast-rising duo Nanci and Phoebe Irondread, DJ Snuff and Potent Whisper.
Tour manager Marc Brown, himself an expert producer, is looking forward to working with the Senegalese artists in the recording studio and on stage. "I'm pleased to be part of this tour, linking the UK to Africa, representing the uniting power of words and music and presenting south London's own rap and spoken word artists at a unique international festival," he said.
Fast-rising talented female MCs and singers, they work closely with Congo Natty, have recently been on tour in India, China and Nepal with DJ Wu-Lu and have been working in the Czech Republic on a month-long series of events prior to going to Senegal. Their unique vocal style fuses hip hop, soul and dubstep with a distinctly heavy roots and urban feel.
With his unique style and infectious challenging lyrics, Potent Whisper provides a new take on hip hop and the spoken word. His performance on DJ Wulu's 'Boom Bap Bounce' track, with Congo Natty and Nanci Correia, is an example of this MC's talent and diversity.
Snuff has a long term engagement and reputation in hip hop on an international scale. Currently part of 'END OF THE WEAK' project in Uganda and active in the US, he will soon be working with Raw Material in London with the Ugandan group. He brings his musical experience, eclectic selections and world vibes into play through his performances on the decks.
