Rasmussen College Celebrates 41st Annual Week of the Young Child

BLOOMINGTON, Minn., April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Rasmussen College is partnering with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) for the 41st annual Week of the Young Child. Held from April 22 to 28, the Week of the Young Child will focus on bringing public awareness to the needs of young children and their families, and recognize early childhood education professionals, services and programs designed to meet their needs.

Rasmussen College students and faculty members will support NAEYC's Week of the Young Child with a series of local events and activities aligned with this year's theme: "Healthy Minds! Healthy Children!" Rasmussen College campuses nationwide will host book readings of Feelings to Share from A to Z by Todd and Peggy Snow at local childcare facilities.

Students and faculty members will also host 'Pinwheels for Prevention,' a pinwheel garden display symbolizing child abuse and neglect prevention nationwide. The pinwheels represent Prevent Child Abuse America's efforts to change the way the U.S. thinks about prioritizing prevention and the importance of community activities and public policies that ensure child abuse and neglect never occur.

"Nearly 4,600 children were hospitalized as a result of physical abuse in the U.S. in 2006, and that number is rising year after year," said Cecelia Westby, School Director, Rasmussen College School of Education. "Rasmussen College student and faculty members are taking a stand by joining efforts with the National Association for the Education of Young Children to help bring awareness to child abuse and neglect nationwide."
