Questar Assessment Inc. Senior Leaders to Speak at the 2015 Association of Test Publishers "Innovations in Testing" Conference
MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Questar Assessment Inc. is proud to announce that three senior leaders from its Innovations, Research and Design teams will present at the 2015 Association of Test Publishers (ATP) "Innovations in Testing" Conference in Palm Springs, California on the topics of effective test item composition, integration of technology into test scoring, and cross-industry assessment development.
Dr. Tim Vansickle, Chief Academic Officer and Dr. Canda Mueller, Vice President of Assessment Design and Psychometrics will partner with Jennifer Dugan, the Director of Assessment from the Minnesota Department of Education, to deliver "Item-Writing Workshops: How to Properly Train Writers and Review Items" on Wednesday, March 4 at 10:15 a.m. At a time when the federal government requires testing data to prove school alignment with Common Core State Standards, effective assessment writers are in high demand. Vansickle, Mueller and Dugan will share insights from their extensive experience in psychometrics and high-stakes test item development to help industry writers gain a broader understanding of effective K–12 assessment items.
"I am so proud of Dr. Vansickle and Dr. Mueller's innovative test development methods," says Questar CEO Jamie Candee. "Their work has ultimately enabled Questar to provide items that assess learning in a meaningful way. We are all excited for the opportunity to present with Ms. Dugan, and I would like to personally thank her for all her hard work."
Dr. William Lorie, Director of Educational Research and Psychometrics will present "Conceptualizing Score Compatibility in the Era of Devices" on Tuesday, March 3 at 2:30 p.m. Lorie's presentation will focus on the rise of online testing and the compatibility of computer-based and paper-and-pencil scoring. He has led the development of several technology-enhanced test items for Questar Assessment, and continues to test and research new capabilities of online test taking.
On Monday, March 2 at 1:45 p.m., Dr. Joe Orban, Chief Research Scientist, will present the panel discussion, "Common Challenges in Developing and Updating Test Content," to explore the similarities and differences of high-stakes test development in areas including education, employment and certification. Orban will explore the ways in which test development strategies from any one of these areas may ultimately benefit the others.
According to the Association of Test Publishers, "Innovations in Testing brings together assessment industry professionals from clinical, occupational, certification, licensure and educational practice areas. A sell-out event in 2014, this is the premier conference where industry professionals learn from each other, network with colleagues and discover the latest innovations in the testing industry."
