CHICAGO, Dec. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- According to the 2018 Food & Health Survey from the International Food Information Council Foundation (IFIC), consumers want nutritional benefits from foods, but only 38 percent can name a food they would seek out to help with their top concerns. To help people achieve their health and wellness goals, The Quaker Oats Company, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc., is setting out to help people get real about nutrition and get started with oats. From heart health, to digestive health and even energy, oats can help support a healthy lifestyle.
As part of Quaker's campaign, the credible nutrition brand is joining forces with actress, oat enthusiast, and health advocate, Rosario Dawson, to develop a three-part video series that encourages people to start taking their nutrition into their own hands and shows them that small steps – like incorporating oats into their day – can help make a difference.
"I've been eating Quaker oatmeal since I was a young child, ever since my aunt taught me how to make it from scratch, so I'm excited to team up with them to help spread the word about the benefits of oats," said Dawson. "As an advocate for health and wellness, I never want to short-term my health and think it's so important to have long-term plans. And what's great is that you don't have to start big since even small steps can help make a difference."
The video series puts a spotlight on the extraordinary oat and its many benefits, including:
- Heart Health: A strong and growing body of evidence suggests that eating oats as part of a heart-healthy diet may reduce the risk factor for heart disease. Quaker helped establish the first FDA heart-health claim for oat fiber more than 20 years ago, which states that eating three grams of soluble fiber from oatmeal daily as part of a diet low in fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease.
- Digestive Health: Maintaining digestive health is important to help keep us feeling our best. One way is by consuming foods rich in fiber, which helps to keep things moving through the digestive tract. Experts recommend eating at least 25 to 30 grams of fiber each day from a variety of grains, fruits and vegetables1, and a serving of oatmeal provides four grams of fiber.
- Energy: It's important to choose foods – like whole grains – that can be a good source of fuel for busy mornings. Beta-glucan, the soluble fiber in oatmeal may help slow digestion, which slows the release of glucose into the blood stream.
"Quaker has spent more than 140 years finding ways to help people benefit from the nutrition of whole grain oats, so we know just how important this super grain can be in supporting a healthy lifestyle," said Robbert Rietbroek, senior vice president and general manager at Quaker Foods North America. "With this video series featuring Rosario Dawson, we want to engage and educate consumers in a new, different, and meaningful way, so we can be a true partner in their health and wellness journey."
The video series, which launched today, is part of Quaker's larger campaign to help people discover the nutrition benefits of oats, and as one of the simplest building blocks of a healthy diet, oats are uniquely positioned to deliver on modern nutrition wants. This larger campaign is also supported through integrated marketing efforts, including digital, social, PR, in-store and strategic partnerships.
