Publisher More Than Sound Launches MindfulFilter, a Campaign to Encourage Conscious Intention when Taking and Sharing Photos
The beta social experiment asks people to adopt a mindful approach to using technology and social media through photography
NORTHAMPTON, Mass., April 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Are we living in the moment – or just recording and sharing arbitrary experiences on social media? Publisher More Than Sound (morethansound.net) launched MindfulFilter, a social experiment that invites people to take and share photos with intention and purpose. The campaign's goal is to offer people a framework to observe their relationship with technology and social media with more present-moment awareness.

Every Monday, More Than Sound will announce the week's MindfulFilter theme with a series of photos on their Instagram feed (http://instagram.com/mindfulfilter). Participants are invited to join the week's conversation by taking and posting photos to their own Instagram account, using #mindfulfilter in the description. Contributors are encouraged to write a brief description about how mindfulness played a role in their post.
Every Friday, More Than Sound will share select images that best resonate with the week's theme on morethansound.net/mindful-filter, and the publisher's other social media feeds. Once a month a "Featured Filter" contributor will be chosen to receive a free audio download, CD or book.
Guest editors from diverse disciplines, including art, psychology and the mindfulness community, will periodically curate themes and photos for the campaign.
"One of the many benefits of mindfulness is how easily we can incorporate a present-minded awareness into any daily activity," said Michael Sjostedt, social media manager at More Than Sound. "How we use social media and our mobile phones can sometimes feel robotic and automated. MindfulFilter is an opportunity to pay more attention to how we use and interact with technology and social media through something we do regularly – taking and sharing photos."
