Details: Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R) will host its annual Advancing Ethical Research (AER) Conference (www.primr.org/aer14) from December 4-7, 2014 in Baltimore, MD.
More than 2,500 participants are expected at the meeting, representing a variety of perspectives from the human subjects protections field. The meeting begins on December 4 with pre-conference programs followed by three days of conference programming.
This year's keynote speakers—John T. Wilbanks, Anthony S. Fauci, MD, and Susan E. Lederer, PhD—will cover topics across the field of research ethics and human subjects protections, including informed consent in the mobile era, the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and the legacy of Henry K. Beecher's call for reform in clinical research ethics, respectively.
In addition, members of the Henrietta Lacks family and representatives from The Johns Hopkins University (where Henrietta Lacks was a patient) and the NIH will discuss what has happened since the publication of Rebecca Skloot's 2010 book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, including the creation of an unprecedented agreement between the Lacks family and the NIH that allows researchers controlled access to the whole genome data from the HeLa cell line.
Complimentary meeting registration is available to print, online, and broadcast journalists from health, medical, and science outlets. For more information on media eligibility requirements, visit www.primr.org/aer14/media.
