Public Invited to "The Year's Best Astronomy Images" at National Harbor
Interactive presentation on Tuesday evening, January 9th, is FREE and open to all.
WASHINGTON, Jan. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Astronomical Society (AAS) invites the public to meet the scientists behind NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day website (https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html) on Tuesday evening, January 9th, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm EST. This FREE event is being held at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor in connection with the 231st AAS meeting (https://aas.org/meetings/aas231), which runs from January 8th through the 12th and is attracting more than 3,000 astronomers, educators, and journalists from all over the world.
The event, to be held in Potomac Ballroom D at the Gaylord (201 Waterfront St., National Harbor, MD 20745), will be emceed by Robert Nemiroff (Michigan Technological University) and Jerry Bonnell (University of Maryland), the proprietors of NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD), one of the most popular astronomy destinations on the Web. A selection of images featured on APOD in 2017 will be shown in large-screen format, and Nemiroff and Bonnell will lead a discussion about what makes them particularly breathtaking, educational, and/or newsworthy. Then the floor will be opened to the public for questions about anything in astronomy, to be answered as well as possible by Nemiroff, Bonnell, and other astronomers attending the AAS meeting.
