Prysmian Narrowly Beats Nexans to Retain #1 Global Wire and Cable Producer Spot While Chinese Companies Stall
LONDON, September 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Prysmian has again achieved the top spot in Integer Research's independently compiled Top 100 Global Wire & Cable Producer Database 2015 rankings*. Strong sales of submarine power cables and fibre optic cables helped the company retain the #1 spot ahead of global rival Nexans, though the gap between these two key players has narrowed noticeably.
The annual Top 100 Global Wire & Cable Producers Database acts as the barometer of competition across the wire and cable industry, and provides independently verified rankings of the 100 largest producers in the world based on revenues derived from insulated products for the previous year.
World insulated market reaches US$215 billion
Analysis of the latest data shows the Top 100 producers generated insulated wire and cable revenues of US$110 billion in 2014 representing 51% of the global market. The world insulated wire and cable market reached a total of US$215 billion in 2014. Revenues from the Top 100 have hovered between US$111 and US$114 billion over the last four years.
General Cable held onto its position of third place in 2014, but it is likely to be overtaken by Sumitomo Electric in 2015, as it continues to sell its overseas operations. Southwire has also continued to rise up the rankings helped by a number of acquisitions in the last few years, and the stronger demand for cable from the USA.
More of the winners in 2014 include Riyadh Cable, El Sewedy, Al Fanar, Bahra Cables and Elloumi Group who have all continued to see a rise in their revenues both in the Middle East and North Africa, and in the case of Coficab, through its new operations in Mexico and Brazil.
China stalls out, North America holds steady
For the first time in seven years, the leading Chinese companies have not risen up the rankings against their global peers. Indeed, leading Chinese cable maker, Far East Smarter Energy (formerly Far East Cable) ranked 13 in last year's Top 100, showed a marginal dip in revenues from US$1754 million in 2013 to US$1720 million in 2014 and now stands in fourteenth place. There are 39 Chinese cable makers in the Top 100 this year, and their combined sales grew by less than 1% to reach US$24.7 billion in 2014, reflecting the wider slowing growth rates in the broader Chinese economy. In contrast, there has been a continued recovery in the USA and Mexico, with new investment in cable factories and increased merger and acquisition activity in the automotive wire, fibre optic cable and tray cable markets in particular.
Figures reveal highly competitive market
The new Top 100 Wire & Cable Producers Database 2015 is published in excel format and encompasses a wealth of data over a six year period (2009-2014). It is an ideal tool for understanding the highly competitive wire and cable market, allowing you to compare company performance over time, including divisional revenues, sales by product type and country splits.
