New authoritative collection will expand content offering from key publications of the 20th Century
CAMBRIDGE, England, Nov. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- ProQuest has expanded its database of British Periodicals with the launch of Collection IV. British Periodicals is a unique, transformative resource charting contemporary comment on the interests, attitudes, and events across three centuries of British history, politics and culture. From the 17th through the 20th centuries the collections enable users to search in depth across a vast array of material, which would previously have been inaccessible to them.
"Our continued commitment to expanding our unique historical collections enables us to deliver superior research outcomes," said Susan Bokern, Vice President, Product Management, ProQuest Information Solutions. "The British Periodicals collection series (I-IV) are essential databases to advance the work of researchers across many disciplines; British Periodicals IV reaches across many subject areas and allows researchers to study landmark texts in their historical context in the original print issues and volumes."
The new British Periodicals IV Collection strengthens archival coverage of the 20th Century across a diverse range of areas. Collection IV focuses on the area of politics, international affairs and conflict, the arts, and travel and empire. It also serves many other areas of teaching and research in 20th-century topics such as social history, journalism history, and gender studies.
Leading magazines available at launch include The Field (1853-2005) (one of the longest running active magazines in history), The Highway (1908-1959), and The War (1939-1941). Forthcoming titles include Tribune (1937-2005) – one of the most influential publications of the British political left – along with other unique titles shedding light on politics, culture, and society of the 20th century. The entire British Periodicals database is accessible on the newly enhanced ProQuest platform, recently awarded Best Interface in the Charleston Advisors Annual Readers' Choice awards, allowing cross-searching with the growing number of historical collections including the Periodicals Archive Online (1-10 Series), Art and Architecture, Entertainment Industry Magazines Archive (I, II), and the magazine collections of venerable Women's Magazines, Vogue, Women's Wear Daily, Country Life and launching in this November, Harper's Bazaar.
Aiming to improve the researchers' outcomes, ProQuest continues to build on its growing corpus of digitised authoritative historical collections, making essential and hard to find research information accessible online.
