Started more than fourteen years ago, Project Lifesaver is not just the first, but the most widely used and effective program in the nation that is specifically designed to protect the "At Risk" populations in our communities. Project Lifesaver has trained thousands of public safety agencies, not only in search, rescue and the use of our electronic locating equipment, but also in the methods necessary to communicate with a person who has Alzheimer's disease, Autism or a related cognitive disorder.
Face Value Comics, Inc. (FVC) is a 501C (3) non-profit organization that has created the first comic book hero with Autism. FVC's mission is to reinforce the idea that all children have the right to feel safe, wanted, and successful in their homes, schools, and communities. Understanding their own and others' emotions boosts the confidence needed for improved social behaviors and reinforce these beliefs by telling a social story through the pages of a comic book and the eyes of its hero. Michael, their main protagonist, has autism. Many of his friends also have different problems with mental health.
David Kot, Founder & script writer for FVC, says, "Project Lifesaver International provides pro-active community resources for persons prone to elope or wander. Together, we share at least one target audience. Face Value Comics includes a unique 'Emotional Safety Checklist' in each issue. These dedicated pages reinforce core concepts of feeling safety, wanted and successful. We use our collective ability and knowledge drawn (comic book pun intended) from academic, artistic, professional and personal experiences to make an engaging comic book story...for and about children with disabilities." Kot believes Project Lifesaver will be a terrific fit to cover the "Emotional Safety Checklist" for each issue, which is another creative way for parents and caregivers to learn about Project Lifesaver's program.
CEO & Founder of Project Lifesaver International, Gene Saunders said, "We are excited about this new partnership with David and the rest of the Face Value team. Being included as part of their journey is an honor and is another great way to deliver the message of how we address wandering and wandering prevention and how FVC shows the emotional values of understanding a child on the Autism Spectrum."
In the next few months look for great things to come from the collaboration between Project Lifesaver and Face Value Comics. Project Lifesaver will be included as an expert source for FVC on a regular basis delivering content for the "Emotional Safety Checklist" addressing wandering and elopement tips and suggestions for improved safety.
