General Electric Company Analyst Notes
On March 14, 2014, General Electric Company (GE) unveiled its newly expanded oil and gas facility in Fót, Hungary. According to GE, the Company added a new 8,000 square meter manufacturing facility and 3,000 square meter new office building to its Oil & Gas manufacturing plant. The Company stated that the new state-of-the-art manufacturing base will provide central unit control panels (UCPs) for pipelines, LNG production facilities and other oil and gas applications. Also, GE claimed that the increased capacity adds more than 100 jobs, including 40 engineering positions, an employment increase of more than 80%. Commenting on the expansion, Davide Marrani, Global Supply Chain Leader for Turbomachinery Solutions, GE Oil & Gas said, "GE is proud to open this facility, which will enable us to meet the increasing demand for our customers locally and globally. This opening is an important step in strengthening GE's presence in the oil and gas sector and in Hungary." Honeywell International Inc. Analyst Notes
On March 13, 2014, Honeywell International Inc. (Honeywell) announced that its Spectra® fiber is strengthening the ropes used in a new sculpture by world-renowned artist Janet Echelman. According to Honeywell, the fiber is 15 times stronger than steel but light enough to float, giving Echelman's sculpture the strength it needs to sustain winds of up to 96 miles per hour, while remaining light enough to attach to existing buildings and eventually be transported around the world to be displayed. "Spectra fiber's lightweight strength makes it a sought-after material for specialty applications like Janet's innovative and impressive sculpture, but also for critical applications ranging from body armor to slings for lifting bridge components weighing millions of pounds," said Mark Saholsky, Global Business Manager for Honeywell's Advanced Fibers and Composites business. "This Vancouver installation of the artwork underscores the capabilities of Spectra fiber." The sculpture weighs 3,500 pounds and its first installation will suspend 745 feet across the waterfront between the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel and the Vancouver Convention Center, according to the Company.
