EXPERT ALERTS:
February is Heart Health Month
Stacy Mitchell Doyle, MD
Founder and Physician
FoodTherapyMD
Approximately 75 million adults, or one in three, have high blood pressure -- and of those, about seven out of 10 are taking at least one prescription medication to treat the condition. Says Dr. Doyle: "Food is medicine, and that is something I have come to truly believe in. I have witnessed firsthand the tremendous benefits that transitioning to a plant-based diet can have on a person's health -- benefits that can be achieved without a reliance on prescription drugs."
Dr. Doyle is a Los Angeles-based physician and the founder of FoodTherapyMD. This month, she is launching a consultation service called "Second Opinion, which is geared to help people develop a personalized, plant-based, prescription diet to combat chronic disorders like hypertension. She can address topics such as: the benefits of a whole plant-based diet; the best way to transition to a plant-based diet; and how phytonutrients can be effective in treating and reversing conditions like hypertension, diabetes and many more debilitating diseases.

Is Intermittent Fasting Right for You?
Jonathan Jordan
Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach
JJ-Fit.com
"There are a lot of nutritional strategies being popularized in the news and on social media these days: fasted cardio, macro tracking, elimination diets, keto, etc. It can be hard to make heads or tails as to whether these are legit or just some whacky protocol designed to sell you supplements and pipedreams of ripped abs. One very legitimate strategy for fat loss, digestive health and improved energy that has been around for quite some time but may be misunderstood is intermittent fasting. Fasting gives your body, liver and digestive track a 16-hour break from processing food. Insulin levels spike less frequently throughout the day thus helping to make you more insulin sensitive. The 'feeding window' can help us understand when we are actually hungry and when we are being triggered for 'mindless eating.'"
Based in San Francisco, Jordan is the author of JJ's Guide to Eating Clean and Getting Lean (www.JJ-Fit.com/Guide).

Blockchain Technology Can Reshape Healthcare
Khalid (Ken) Parekh
Chairman and CEO
AMSYS Group
The healthcare industry is decades behind and inefficient when it comes to technology. Witness the annual, manual processing of more than 3 billion transactions. Enter the hottest buzz going: blockchain technology. Parekh believes blockchain can reshape healthcare the way transistors revolutionized electronics: "Blockchain technology is the healthcare industry's Rosetta Stone to decode and solve infuriating problems inherent in an industry, technology-wise, still in the '70s: Wrong, non-portable medical records; patient information security breaches; unnecessary redundancy of multiple forms when seeing multiple providers; continuously out-of-date information on medications, diagnostics and procedures."
Parekh is chairman and CEO of AMSYS, an international group that invests in six principal verticals, backed by a seasoned team with decades of respective experience in each field.

The New Generation of NFL Football Helmet Technology
Tobin Arthur
Founder and CEO
AngelMD
The multi-billion-dollar world of football -- from Pop Warner to high school to college to the NFL -- is reeling from traumatic brain injuries. As science reveals the extent of concussions and their cumulative, long-term damage, the game -- and business -- of football is in danger. Says Arthur: "Only 1 out of 20 medical technology startups will receive enough funding to escape the 'valley of death,' the time between an idea's initial investment and the creation of a commercially viable product. Investment and startup activity in medical technology is in a precipitous decline, putting future medical technology innovations in grave jeopardy. I'm fighting to give promising, but long-shot, medical technologies a chance to see the light of day."
Arthur is available to discuss concussions, brain injury and the new generation of NFL football helmet technology. He is founder and CEO of AngelMD, a health care investment marketplace connecting the largest network of medical startups in the world with physicians, investors, and industry with the goal of creating successful outcomes. From efficient capital to our platform, AngelMD's vision is to help innovative companies impact the future of health care.

Nine Ways to Alleviate Super Bowl Stress
Dr. John Huber
Chairman
Mainstream Mental Health
Dr. Huber is available to discuss how Super Bowl viewers can alleviate stress while watching the game: "1) When the clock is ticking down and your team is falling apart, breathe. Transcendental meditation has shown to lower mortality rates by as much as 43% for heart attacks, and significantly reduce all reasons for death in general. So when the stress hits, as much as you feel the need to sit on the edge of the chair and hold your breath, sit back and breathe. 2) Take a break. Go outside in the backyard and walk the perimeter of the yard. Stop and take several deep breaths, turn around and walk the perimeter back the other way. Take two more deep breaths, then enter the house and keep breathing. 3) Don't drink alcohol during the game. If you must drink, have a drink before kick-off, one during the commercials at half time, and maybe one to celebrate if your team wins. Don't overdo it. 4) Just like athletes playing in the big game, game-day preparations are important. Get a good night's sleep – 7-9 hours -- the night before the game. 5) Don't just watch sports. Staying physically fit by working out three times a week can help ward off stress. Make sure you mix it up and do both resistance and cardio exercises. 6) Stay hydrated. Drink lots of water and try to snack on healthy fruits and vegetables. Stay away from salty processed foods. 7) Find something to laugh about. A good belly laugh doesn't just lighten the load mentally, it lowers cortisol, your body's stress hormone, and boosts brain chemicals called endorphins, which help your mood. Remember, no matter how big a deal the game is, it is still just a game. 8) If it gets too bad, just turn the game off. It may be the best thing for those with hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol or other risks for heart attacks. 9) After the game, meditate, do some stretching, take a hot shower and get a good night's sleep."
Based in Texas, Dr. Huber is the chairman for Mainstream Mental Health, a nonprofit organization that brings lasting and positive change to the lives of individuals that suffer from mental health issues. A mental health professional for more than 20 years, Dr. Huber is a clinical forensic psychologist and a practitioner with privileges at two long-term acute-care hospitals.

Custody of Pets in Divorce Cases
Michael Ian Bender
Family Law Mediation/Litigation/Children's Representative
Law Office of Michael Ian Bender
Many laws have gone into effect in 2018, but one Illinois law that hasn't gotten as much attention as it deserve is the new law regarding pets in a divorce. On Jan. 1, a law went into effect regarding the custody of pets in divorce cases. Previously, pets had been treated much like any other material asset in a divorce, to be divided up in whatever way best balanced the scales. Now, however, judges are allowed and encouraged to consider the well-being of the pet when deciding which spouse will receive custody, in much the same way that custody of children is determined. Says Bender: "I am pleased that the legal system has finally addressed the issue of pets in divorce. As a retired judge myself, I often served on cases with pet-related conflicts. And now, as a private practice family law attorney who also happens to be animal lover, I'm happy to know that judges will look at pets as beloved members of the family."
Bender re-opened The Law Office of Michael Ian Bender in December 2013 after retiring from his tenure as a Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, where he served the People of the State of Illinois and residents of Cook County. Bender was assigned to the Domestic Relations Division, Parentage and Child Support Section, where he heard matters involving child abuse, custody, support, parentage, visitation, and college contribution. During this time, he protected the rights of minor children. Prior to becoming a judge, Bender was in private practice for 15 years. He received recognition from the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys and the American Institute of Legal Counsel where he was voted one of the "10 Best" in his field. He is based in the Chicagoland area.

- 3 WAYS TO HARNESS THE CREATIVE CHAOS AS A CONTENT CREATOR FOR HIRE. Creativity is perceived as something that can't be taught -- a spontaneous and unorganized spark that can strike at any moment. It can be a messy process, full of rewrites, crumpled pieces of paper, and maybe a panic attack or two. However, when creativity is your business, the inherent chaos must be tamed. Creativity can and should be a process that follows a defined set of procedures and steps. Employing the following steps won't eliminate the drama completely, but should spare you the Greek tragedy that sometimes takes place behind the scenes: http://prn.to/2DDR00i
- FIVE QUESTIONS WITH ZIG'S CEO AND CO-FOUNDER. With the debut of Zig, entrepreneur Joshua James wants to change the way people engage with and consume the news. Along with co-founders Adam Platzner and John Tornow, James launched the compelling new media platform earlier this month, and it's already garnering big attention. Former Vanity Fair Editor-in-Chief Graydon Carter, music producer Quincy Jones, and Live Nation are just some of the high-profile players backing the venture. For Carter, this is his first public project since leaving his post at Vanity Fair. In a recent news release, Carter says he wants to help the team how he can and believes the app "will find a wide and dedicated audience." That's likely because Zig promises to shake up the current ecosystem -- one that has delivered mixed results for publishers in the past. Read more: http://prn.to/2EspW0W
