ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 20, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In recognition of National Small Business Week, the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations (NAPEO) today applauded the contributions of America's small businesses to the economic and community vitality of our nation, and highlighted the role professional employer organizations (PEOs) play in supporting small businesses. The week-long program of events around the country comes to a close tomorrow in Washington, D.C.
PEOs provide payroll, benefits, tax compliance, and other HR services to small and mid-size companies. Approximately 250,000 businesses use PEOs, and PEOs provide access to healthcare coverage for as many as six million people. Through a PEO, the employees of small businesses gain access to employee benefits such as 401(k) plans; health, dental, life, and other insurance; dependent care; and other benefits typically provided by large companies. According to a recent study, 40 percent of small businesses in PEO arrangements upgrade their total employee benefit offerings as a result.
"Every day, PEOs provide critical HR and compliance assistance to hundreds of thousands of small businesses across the country, freeing up time and resources so that they can focus on growing their companies and creating jobs," said NAPEO President and CEO Pat Cleary, noting that small businesses are responsible for 64 percent of job growth over the last 15 years and that more than half the workforce is employed in the small business sector. "To all those small business owners out there who are overwhelmed and worried about healthcare, payroll, workers' comp, taxes, and government compliance we say, 'Keep Calm and Call a PEO.'"
NAPEO recently launched a campaign to reach out to small business owners and educate them about the benefits of using a PEO. Centered around the "Keep Calm and Call a PEO" theme, the campaign includes a website to help business owners find a PEO (www.napeo.org/findapeo) and a series of online ads.
