ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Association of Professional Employer Organizations (NAPEO) today offered its industry's support for proposals to assist small business and create jobs outlined in President Obama's State of the Union speech last night.
"We agree with the President that small businesses need to spend less time filling out complicated forms and more time expanding and hiring," said NAPEO President and CEO Pat Cleary. "As the go-to provider of HR, benefits, tax administration, and compliance solutions for small businesses, professional employer organizations (PEOs) know better than most the significant tax and regulatory challenges facing small companies."
"While the President only briefly touched upon it in his speech last night, we also share his goal of delivering affordable, quality healthcare to everyone. PEOs provide high-quality and affordable healthcare benefits to thousands of small businesses and their employees, and are already the key resource for companies looking for help in preparing for and complying with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. We feel we have an important role to play as its implementation proceeds," Cleary said.
PEOs provide payroll, benefits, tax compliance, and other HR services to small and mid-size companies. Approximately 250,000 businesses use PEOs, and PEOs provide access to healthcare coverage for as many as six million people. Through a PEO, the employees of small businesses gain access to employee benefits such as 401(k) plans; health, dental, life, and other insurance; dependent care; and other benefits typically provided by large companies. According to a recent study, 40 percent of small businesses in PEO arrangements upgrade their total employee benefit offerings as a result.
