Preventing Kit Picking and Order Picking Mistakes in Industrial Warehouses and Stock Rooms
MILLBURY, Mass., March 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- BellHawk Systems announces the availability of a new white paper "Preventing Kit Picking and Order Picking Mistakes in Industrial Warehouses and Stock Rooms." This white paper describes how to use the Japanese "Shinkansen" "Point-See-Do" method in combination with wearable ring-finger barcode scanning devices to effect a large reduction in picking errors. It is available for download from a link in the News section on the home-page of www.BellHawk.com,
This white paper describes a set of methods, designed for use in industrial warehouses and stock rooms, that are a significant improvement over checking off items on a paper pick list as they are picked. At the same time, these methods avoid the large costs and significant maintenance requirements associated with automated picking systems, or pick-to-light, or pick-to-sound systems used by large distribution warehouses.
This white paper explores how intelligent rules-based software, such as that provided by BellHawk Systems, can be used to efficiently pick multiple orders at the same time by using an Android tablet mounted at eye level on the picking cart. Instructions shown on this display, along with images of parts to be picked, and color cues as to which bins to pick from and totes or boxes to pick to, can then be used to guide the picker and further reduce picking errors.
This white paper also explores using Bluetooth weighing scales under the totes or boxes into which the parts are placed. This helps ensure accuracy of parts count as well as further making sure that the correct parts are picked.
Through the use of these methods, the labor of one or more people can be saved by not requiring a person to check the kits after picking and by the efficiencies gained by picking multiple orders at the same time. This can enable ROI's of 6 months or less to be achieved.
BellHawk Systems provides work-in-process and inventory tracking systems for manufacturers as well as industrial distribution warehouses that perform secondary operations such as kitting, repacking, relabeling, and light assembly. The BellHawk software is FDA compliant and is also used in medical supply warehouses.
