Power Home Remodeling™ Named No. 2 Company in Small-Business Category by Detroit Free Press
2016 Top Workplace ranking comes from positive employee feedback around the people they work with and opportunities for upward mobility
CHESTER, Pa., Dec. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Power Home Remodeling, the nation's second largest exterior home remodeler, has been named No. 2 on the Detroit Free Press "Top Workplaces 2016" list in the small-business category — the first time Power has ranked on this list since entering the Detroit market in June 2014. Detroit Free Press has recognized 135 companies and organizations in Michigan as 2016 Top Workplaces based solely on surveys completed by their employees.
The majority of Power's 78 locally based employees completed a detailed questionnaire about their job, management and work environment. Employees cited the company's ongoing growth, robust events platform, the people they work with, leadership development and dedication to philanthropic initiatives as the leading reasons why Power is a standout workplace.
"It means a lot to see our Detroit territory recognized as a top workplace for the first time — and to hear collective feedback that our people love who they work with, the culture in which they work and the unlimited opportunities they are given," said Asher Raphael, Power's Co-Chief Executive Officer. "We have unbreakable bonds at Power and that's why when we interview candidates, we're really focused on character versus skill set. We want someone who is going to fit into our culture and company fabric, and we're dedicated to finding people who are character-driven and optimistic in nature and want to work for something greater than themselves."
Power employees are provided with ongoing opportunities for growth in the form of leadership conferences across the country, frequent opportunities to meet and socialize with senior leadership and a personal mentor to help guide them to dream big. Power's robust social program filled with can't-miss events and an annual company-paid trip to Mexico also gives employees a chance to develop a lasting camaraderie with their colleagues to bring their experience full circle. Additionally, Power is dedicated to several mission-driven initiatives, including its partnership with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and the recently launched Power Veterans Initiative — a one-of-its-kind recruitment program specifically for millennial military veterans with a focus on changing the national veteran narrative from one of distress to one of pride by spotlighting veterans' unparalleled leadership skills and their desire to seek out companies where they will have the opportunity to lead.
"Employees at Power truly enjoy each other's company and coming to work every day. We are a family unit and motivate each other to work toward one common goal: making a difference for our customers and our community," said Kyle Hillman, Power's Regional Vice President of Sales for the Detroit territory. "When we entered the Detroit market in 2014, the city had been struggling for quite some time and is finally going through a resurgence. I see firsthand how our employees have come together and share a passion for creating positive change for the city by enhancing our customers' homes and making them more energy efficient, and in turn, increasing their value and helping them achieve the American Dream."
The Detroit Free Press "Top Workplaces" list is coordinated in partnership with WorkplaceDynamics, and in 2016, they surveyed 209 companies and recognized 135. The surveyed firms employ more than 95,000 people in the state of Michigan and out of those employees who received questionnaires, more than 48,000 responded. These companies are recognized based solely on the results of employee surveys that indicate engagement levels, confidence in their leadership teams, workplace flexibility and overall satisfaction — demonstrating they are more likely to be successful from an employee engagement and productivity standpoint than other organizations.
