Power Home Remodeling™ Named 2016 Top Small Workplace by The Houston Chronicle
Company also wins special Employee Appreciation Award based on volume of positive employee feedback
CHESTER, Pa., Dec. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Power Home Remodeling, the nation's second largest exterior home remodeler, has been named No. 1 on The Houston Chronicle's "Top Workplaces 2016" list in the small company category. Entering the Houston market in May 2015, this marks the company's first time on the "Top Workplaces" list. This annual list identifies leading workplaces in the Houston area based purely on the feedback of employees. Power also received an Employee Appreciation Award, which is a recognition only given to one company based on feedback from thousands of employee surveys. WorkplaceDynamics — who manages the Top Workplaces Program — selected 15 categories of special awards for companies that received high scores on employee responses to certain survey statements.
The majority of Power's 103 locally based employees completed a detailed questionnaire about their job, management and work environment. Employees cited the company's friendly atmosphere, team-driven environment, training opportunities, performance incentives and the people they work with as reasons why Power should be considered Houston's No. 1 workplace.
"At Power, we view each other as more than colleagues — we are a family. If you ask our employees across all 12 of our territories why they love working at Power, the main reason is almost always the people and the bonds they have built," said Asher Raphael, Power's Co-Chief Executive Officer. "We are especially honored to receive this recognition in Houston given the short amount of time we have been operating here — and to see that the remarkable culture we have worked hard to create is already felt in one of our newest locations is extremely special."
Power employees are provided with ongoing opportunities for growth in the form of leadership conferences across the country, frequent opportunities to meet and socialize with senior leadership and a personal mentor to help guide them to dream big. Power's robust social program filled with can't-miss events and an annual company-paid trip to Mexico also gives employees a chance to develop a lasting camaraderie with their colleagues to bring their experience full circle. Additionally, Power is dedicated to several mission-driven initiatives, including its partnership with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and the recently launched Power Veterans Initiative — a one-of-its-kind recruitment program specifically for millennial military veterans with a focus on changing the national veteran narrative from one of distress to one of pride by spotlighting veterans' unparalleled leadership skills and their desire to seek out companies where they will have the opportunity to lead.
"The last thing we want is for our employees to wake up on Monday mornings and dread going to work. Our goal is to hire the right people and to create an innovative workspace with fun perks and an atmosphere where they go to the office to see their friends and build a career at the same time," said Josh Shepard, Power's Regional Vice President of Sales for the Houston territory. "It's amazing to see the close-knit team we have here. Hanging out together outside of work is a regular occurrence — from going out to dinner and heading out to Midtown on the weekends to playing basketball on Sundays."
The Houston Chronicle "Top Workplaces" list is coordinated in partnership with WorkplaceDynamics, and in 2016, they surveyed 281 companies and recognized 150. The surveyed firms employ more than 145,000 people in the Houston area and out of those employees who received questionnaires, more than 77,000 responded. These companies are recognized based solely on the results of employee surveys that indicate engagement levels, confidence in their leadership teams, workplace flexibility and overall satisfaction — demonstrating they are more likely to be successful from an employee engagement and productivity standpoint than other organizations.
