Power Home Remodeling Group™ Expands Into New York, Creating Hundreds of New Green Jobs
Company donates $10K to YouthBuild Long Island's new E3 Training Center to support green job training
CHESTER, Pa., May 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Power Home Remodeling Group, the nation's fourth largest home remodeling company, has expanded its operations in Melville, New York -- ushering in hundreds of new, green jobs on Long Island and the greater New York metropolitan area. Power has already hired more than 50 employees on Long Island and plans to create at least 100 jobs in 2011 and another 100 - 250 in 2012. Power will host an official ribbon-cutting today at its Melville offices with the support of local and state elected officials, including State Senator Carl L. Marcellino; State Senator John J. Flanagan; Assemblyman James D. Conte; Assemblyman Andrew P. Raia, and Huntington Town Supervisor Frank P. Petrone.
"We are thrilled to expand our operations and to call Long Island our new home base in New York," said Jeff Kaliner, Power's co-founder and chief executive officer. "This expansion will provide more opportunity -- both for our current employees and for prospective employees looking for stability, growth and earning potential in the green jobs sector. Our aggressive expansion approach continues to demonstrate our goal of being the leading home improvement company with a special focus on green products and energy efficient, environmentally friendly solutions to help homeowners enhance their home and reduce their energy consumption. With our arrival to Long Island, we will help to further enhance Long Island's image as a leading and nationally renowned green community in the United States."
Power's burgeoning success in a rebounding economy is due in large part to the administration's 2010 energy efficiency tax credit for homeowners. In 2010, Power installed energy efficient solutions in more than 14,000 homes and sites. Later this year, Power will also expand into two additional new markets including Boston and Atlanta, and is projected to add another 400 jobs. Power's portfolio of innovative, energy efficient exterior remodeling solutions includes replacement windows, vinyl siding, roofing, entry and garage doors, attic insulation, gutters and guards, and more.
When Power opens a new office location, the company is committed to ingraining itself into the local community and embarks on various community-related initiatives. With the opening of the Long Island operation, Power is contributing $10,000 to YouthBuild Long Island for its new E3 Career Training Center -- a 5,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility devoted to training Long Island's YouthBuild students in weatherization, green building, renewable energy, home performance and the energy retrofit industries. YouthBuild Long Island is a free youth and community development program and alternative school that offers career training in green industries to low-income young men and women ages 18 - 24 who failed to graduate from high school. YouthBuild provides them with the opportunity to work toward their General Equivalency Diploma (GED) while learning hands-on job skills and improving their chances to be hired in Long Island's growing eco-industries. Power plans to provide additional support to the organization, including Power employees assisting with retrofitting training and donation of labor/materials for construction projects.
"Linkages to industry and job development are critical to the success of YouthBuild Long Island," said Rick Wertheim, Senior Vice President of Housing & Green Initiatives at United Way of Long Island. "We are very excited about partnering with Power Home Remodeling Group as we share the vision of growing Long Island's green collar workforce. Power's support will enable us to provide better and more innovative trainings to students who go through the E3 Career Training Center, using mock-ups, simulations and high-tech training aides, to create a highly qualified green workforce on Long Island. We are extremely grateful for their partnership."
Additionally, last month, Power announced its national sponsorship of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), one of the leading foundations for pediatric cancer, having raised more than $40 million and funded more than 150 cutting-edge research projects. Power has committed to donate one dollar per window, per square of siding and per square of roofing installed throughout the year in an effort to raise awareness of pediatric cancer within each of the markets Power offers home improvement services. Power will set up an Alex's Lemonade Stand at its Melville offices, while encouraging employees and customers to host their own lemonade stands at home throughout the year.
Power also extends a 25 percent discount (in addition to any current promotions) to members of the local police and fire departments. For more information about Power and available career opportunities, please visit PowerHRG.com.
