Power Home Remodeling Group™ Expands into New Corporate Headquarters on Chester Waterfront, Creating Hundreds of New Green Jobs
2010 recipient of PA Governor's Discretionary Fund Grant joins Chester revitalization movement
CHESTER, Pa., Jan. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Power Home Remodeling Group (formerly Power Windows and Siding™), the nation's fourth largest home remodeling company, has relocated its national headquarters to the Wharf at Rivertown in the City of Chester, Pa. — ushering in hundreds of new, green jobs locally and nationally. Power hired more than 300 employees in 2010, and has doubled its workforce since 2007, reporting 900 full-time and part-time employees. More than 400 employees will be based at the new 58,000-square-foot state-of-the-art headquarters.
In July 2010, Governor Ed Rendell awarded Power a $200,000 Opportunity Grant Program. The grant supports companies establishing a national or regional headquarters to create or preserve a significant number of jobs while offering substantial economic impact within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The grant enabled Power to ramp up its hiring efforts in 2010, and supported the company's financial investment in its new national headquarters. The package also included $100,000 in job training assistance for new hires.
"We will be relocating to new corporate headquarters more than three times larger than our existing space and doing business in three additional markets in 2011, with additional expansion planned for 2012," said Jeff Kaliner, Power's co-founder and chief executive officer. "This expansion will provide more opportunity — both for our current employees and for prospective employees looking for stability, growth and earning potential. This aggressive approach will continue to demonstrate our goal of being the home improvement industry leader and one of the few companies able to continue its growth through a difficult economy," Kaliner continued. "Understanding the significant impact of job creation on our economy, it is gratifying that we are helping to ease the record-high unemployment rates during these tough times."
Power's tremendous growth led to their historic headquarters move from Brookhaven in Delaware County, Pa. to the City of Chester. Working with The Buccini/Pollin Group of Wilmington, De., Power selected the Wharf at Rivertown, the 400,000 square-foot innovative, mixed-use office and retail project, located adjacent to a 90-acre waterfront site on the Delaware River. The Wharf features the renovation of an existing building regarded as one of Pennsylvania's most significant architectural and historical structures — formerly the Delaware County Power Plant. Part of the overall Chester revitalization plan, the Wharf at Rivertown is located in a Keystone Opportunity Zone (KOZ) and has already left an impression on the economy of Chester by bringing 1,200 jobs to a community of just under 40,000.
"As Mayor, I am thrilled that Power has selected the City of Chester as the site of its new headquarters. Not only does this mean greater opportunity for gainful employment for Chester residents, but also more investment for the city," said Mayor Wendell N. Butler, Jr. "Being selected further confirms that Chester is a desirable location for growing companies."
Power's burgeoning success in a rebounding economy is due in large part to the administration's 2010 energy efficiency tax credit for homeowners. In 2011, Power will expand into three new markets including Long Island, Boston, and Atlanta and is projected to add another 400 jobs with a focus on green products and energy efficient, environmentally friendly home solutions. In 2010, Power installed more than 14,000 sites, saving homeowners an estimated $1,200 per year in energy consumption.
Additionally, Power's sole window manufacturer and long-time partner, Northeast Building Products, was the recipient of 2009 stimulus funding, and President Obama highlighted the manufacturer during his 2010 State of the Union address as a success story of the Recovery Act and a testament to job creation during a turbulent economy. As a result of the funding and Power's success, Northeast hired more than 50 new employees and added two additional work shifts this past year. Northeast estimates they will hire another 200 employees in 2011.
"Our employees are thrilled to have their 'home away from home' on one of the most attractive waterfronts in the country, and we are looking forward to giving back to the local community and contributing to the vibrant success of Chester," explained Adam Kaliner, co-founder and president. "Our corporate headquarters will serve as the 'hub' for our customer service efforts and will remain central to our success going forward. This impressive waterfront property will meet all of our needs as we grow and will increase our accessibility to Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania."
With the opening of its new headquarters, Power is now also a premier sponsor of The Philadelphia Union Major League Soccer team, whose world-class waterfront stadium next to the Wharf at Rivertown was the catalyst for a $500 million waterfront revitalization project and expected to help "KickStart Chester" by bringing renewed life and vitality to the community. Power is also unveiling its new community relations program called "Power University." Launching in 2011, the program will involve outreach to local Chester youth, providing them with skills-based business and marketing courses/symposiums, mentorship programs, and various scholarship opportunities. It will also expose them to real-life business skills that will open the doors to future job opportunities — at Power or whatever field they choose.
In 2010, Power added roofing to its portfolio of innovative, energy efficient exterior remodeling solutions, which include, replacement windows, vinyl siding, entry and garage doors, attic insulation, gutters and guards, and more. The company officially changed its name at the start of 2011 to Power Home Remodeling Group to better represent the comprehensive remodeling solutions it delivers to homeowners up and down the East Coast — and across the country moving into the future.
