Portland Court Reporter R. Douglas Friend Is Elected President-Elect of the National Court Reporters Association
VIENNA, Va., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- R. Douglas (Doug) Friend has been elected to the office of President-Elect of the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA), a 20,000-member association representing court reporters and providers of captioning and realtime transcription services for the legal, broadcasting, business, government, and educational communities throughout the United States (www.ncraonline.org). Mr. Friend is the vice president and secretary/treasurer of a court reporting firm—Beovich, Walter & Friend, Inc.—in Portland, Ore., where he has been employed since 1980 and has been a shareholder since 1990.
Mr. Friend has served on the NCRA Board in multiple roles, most recently in the past year as vice president, and prior to that for two years as the organization's secretary/treasurer. He holds the Registered Merit Reporter (RMR) and Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) credentials and previously has served twice on the Board of the Oregon Court Reporters Association, including as that organization's President.
Per the NCRA Constitution and Bylaws, Mr. Friend automatically will ascend to the position of NCRA President in July of 2011. When he does so, the honor will cap a lengthy list of contributions to the stenographic court reporting profession, which includes participation on numerous NCRA committees and task forces such as the Firm Owners Community of Interest Committee and the Part-Time Professionals, Board Ethics, Citizens for Impartial Justice Evaluation, Emerging Leaders, and Gift Giving task forces.
Mr. Friend also has served as a Trustee for the National Court Reporters Foundation (NCRF) and holds the distinction of being a five-year "Angel" for his financial contributions to NCRF. He likewise has been closely involved with the National Committee of State Associations, serving as a delegate and alternate and for two terms on its Resolutions Committee. Mr. Friend is certified as a court reporter in Oregon, Washington, and Nevada.
