Popular Social Celebrities And Jane The Virgin Guest Stars The Merrell Twins Join We Heart It As Creative Directors
Innovative Platform Expands Its Influencer & Artist Collaborations Program to Bring Original Content to Its Members
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- We Heart It, the image-based social network that serves a global community of more than 35 million members, today announced that popular social celebrities, musicians and actors Veronica and Vanessa Merrell will join the company as Creative Directors, effective immediately. In their new role, the Merrell Twins will advise We Heart It on content strategy, create original videos and imagery, test new product features on the platform, and support the company's charitable initiatives. Their unique vision and digital experience will build upon We Heart It's exemplary influence among Millennials and Generation Z to empower young women through inspirational, positive, and creative content.
Nineteen-year-old twins in their first year in college, the Merrell Twins have attracted more than 280,000 followers since joining We Heart It in 2014, and have amassed over 500,000 subscribers and 52 million views on YouTube, where they showcase their passion for comedy and music through their fun, down-to-earth screen personalities. They have made special appearances at We Heart It meetups, VidCon, and Digifest, and have done creative collaborations with many brands, including several We Heart It advertisers.
Most recently, Veronica and Vanessa are guest starring as Victoria and Valeria, respectively, in season one and two of "Jane The Virgin." They will appear in the premiere episode of season two set to air on Monday, October 12 at 9/8pm Central.
Early in their career, Veronica and Vanessa struggled with feeling accepted by peers while pursuing their careers as actors, singers, models, and digital influencers. In 2013, the Merrell family moved to Los Angeles to follow their interests in acting and modeling full-time. The twins often use their platform to encourage positivity and shine a light on anti-bullying and cyberbullying issues. Veronica and Vanessa are currently shooting a film called The Standoff, written by Leigh Dunlap, directed by Ilyssa Goodman, and starring Olivia Holt and Alex Wolff.
"We Heart It has always been a positive and supportive community for us, and we love interacting with the Hearters who follow us," said Veronica Merrell. "We're excited to be part of Team We Heart It and we see real potential in creating and collaborating together," added Vanessa Merrell.
"We love working with the Merrell Twins," said Tim Crowhurst, CEO of We Heart It. "Veronica and Vanessa embody our brand values of positivity and inspiration, so we were delighted to expand our relationship by bringing them on board as Creative Directors. We can't wait to unveil some of our new projects together."
Additional Collaborations:
We Heart It has teamed up with country music's next big star Mickey Guyton to introduce a social media-themed lyric video for her song, Somebody Else Will, to the global community on the platform. On October 9, Mickey's We Heart It fans had the first look at her Somebody Else Will video, which showcased lyrics that resonated among Mickey's admirers on platforms like We Heart It, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, profiles of 19 of Mickey's super fans on social media—many who often ask Mickey for relationship advice. In June of 2014, We Heart It launched the lyric video for then independent music artist, Rachel Platten, and her now platinum hit, "Fight Song."
Additional creative collaborations underway include singer/songwriter Jacob Whitesides, who is sharing exclusive images from his European tour on We Heart It. "Four Pink Walls" singer/songwriter Alessia Cara also joined We Heart It in August, and described the platform as her personal space "similar to her bedroom wall where she can find beautiful, inspirational art."
