BOULDER, Colo., Dec. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- PopSockets is thrilled to announce its newest partnership with Halima Aden and UNICEF USA as part of the launch of its giving platform, Poptivism. Ms. Aden joins a group of influencers and celebrities who have been making a charitable impact through the platform since November 2018.
Poptivism enables individuals to make an impact by choosing a cause they care about and designing unique PopSockets grips to be associated with that cause. Any time someone buys that grip, PopSockets gives 50% of every sale to the cause. As of December 10, 2018, the company has raised over $50,000 on behalf of more than 20 organizations.
Ms. Aden, the first high fashion model to wear a hijab on the covers of magazines and on runways around the world, has been a UNICEF Ambassador since July 2018 and has chosen to have her unique Poptivism design benefit UNICEF USA. In fact, this announcement comes on the same day as UNICEF's 72nd anniversary.
"I'm so thrilled to be able to share the incredible work that UNICEF does for children everywhere by teaming up with my friends at PopSockets," said Halima Aden. "I can't think of a better way to celebrate 72 years of lifesaving work than by supporting the organization that has done so much for children, myself included. Happy Anniversary, UNICEF!"
Since 2017, Ms. Aden has traveled to Mexico and Kenya with UNICEF, but her relationship with the organization goes back to the day she was born. Until the age of seven, she and her family lived in Kakuma, a refugee camp in Kenya, where they received support from UNICEF every day. Ms. Aden knows firsthand the important and lifesaving work the organization does, and she appreciates its critical role in raising awareness for the needs of children around the globe. By utilizing the Poptivism platform to advocate and raise funds for UNICEF, Halima will educate a new audience about the programs that save and protect children's lives. This holiday season give a gift that gives back by purchasing Halima's Poptivism grips at https://www.popsockets.com/pages/halima-aden.
About PopSockets
David Barnett is the founder and CEO of PopSockets. He was a philosophy major at Emory, a physics major at University of Colorado Boulder, received his PhD in philosophy from NYU, and from 2005-2015 was a philosophy professor at University of Colorado Boulder. His research specialized in philosophy of language and philosophy of mind, before he reached enlightenment, stopped doing philosophy, and became an entrepreneur.
In 2010, Barnett was looking for a way to stop his earbud cord from getting tangled, and he achieved this by gluing two buttons to the back of his phone and wrapping the earbud cord around the buttons. As ugly as the buttons were, they worked. In the course of improving on the idea, he developed about 60 different prototypes, making the buttons expand and collapse via an accordion mechanism, so that they could function as both a stand and a grip. In 2012, Barnett launched a KickStarter campaign for an iPhone case that would have two PopSockets grips integrated into the case. In addition to getting successfully funded, the KickStarter campaign enabled Barnett to show the world his dancing prowess. Two years later, in 2014, Barnett launched the business out of his garage in Boulder, Colorado, and has subsequently sold 100M PopSockets grips worldwide.
