OKLAHOMA CITY, March 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- PolySkope Labs, a company focused on multiplex food safety solutions, announced today that it has entered into a global platform and supply agreement enabling it to provide leading q-PCR technology to its customers free of charge with minimum orders. The agreement comes ahead of the commercial launch and pending AOAC International Performance Tested Method (PTM) approval of its multiplex RT-PCR PolySkope 1.0 testing kits for the detection of pathogens in food and environmental samples.
This agreement allows PolySkope to place Thermo Fisher Scientific's Applied Biosystems QuantStudio™ 5 Real-Time PCR systems and reagents in customer labs for use with PolySkope's breakthrough kits. PolySkope 1.0 kits are the industry's first to detect Shiga Toxin E. coli (including serotype O157:H7), Salmonella spp. and Listeria monocytogenes, either individually or simultaneously, using a single RT-PCR protocol and enrichment media. Co-enrichment of one to three pathogens is done using PolySkope's proprietary Multiplex Enrichment Media (PMEM).
The reduction from multiple protocols to a single, flexible protocol reduces three-fold the workflow, logistics, inventory, training and regulatory complexities of testing for more than 90 percent of pathogen tests performed. There is an additional 66 percent reduction in labor, footprint, and equipment required for high-throughput testing.
PolySkope's single protocol and shared enrichment medium also reduce the environmental impact of pathogen testing by eliminating two-thirds of plastic disposables required to test, and by reducing the energy consumed by multiple incubators at different temperatures. High-throughput labs adopting PolySkope kits can expect up to 0.74 metric ton reductions in plastic waste and 0.61 metric ton reductions in CO2 generated annually, per facility (100 samples daily).
PolySkope's CSO, Dr. Michael Centola, stated: "We are ecstatic to launch our kits on a robust and innovative platform. The QuantStudio's performance is unrivaled for reliability in multiplex assays, a necessity in food safety. The instruments have a suite of value-added features for customers, like cloud capability and remote run and analysis. Customers can now remotely run, analyze, and report results for samples processed on the QuantStudio system globally, from any PC, tablet or smart phone. This feature is a boon to large testing organizations with multiple satellite labs, as it eliminates the need for highly trained scientists to be present at every facility."
PolySkope successfully completed all validation and product testing of the AOAC PTM Independent Lab Study in January, with all results meeting AOAC requirements. PolySkope expects to receive their AOAC PTM certificate by April 2018 . PolySkope will begin submissions for international approvals later in 2018 with European availability scheduled mid-2019.
