Pluribus Networks Demonstrates OpenStack-Based Network Virtualization with Red Hat
PALO ALTO, Calif., June 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Pluribus Networks, the leader in hardware-accelerated network virtualization for private and public cloud datacenters, is demonstrating at Red Hat Summit how OpenStack developers and users can orchestrate and manage Pluribus Networks Netvisor® Fabric-based network infrastructure using Red Hat OpenStack software. Pluribus Networks is making a long-term commitment to the OpenStack Project and supports the programming of Pluribus Software-Defined Fabrics via the OpenStack Networking (formerly Quantum) API for the Folsom, Grizzly, and future OpenStack releases.
The Pluribus Networks network hypervisor technology transforms OpenStack scalability by providing network service-level abstractions for large-scale multi-tenancy, powered by distributed Fabric intelligence. This offloads the orchestration platform from managing individual L2-L3 Ethernet switches and L4-L7 network services, resulting in simplified operations of datacenters with up to 16 million tenants.
The collaboration with Red Hat is designed to take advantage of the server-like programmability of the Pluribus Networks Netvisor Fabric to deliver a flexible, performant, and scalable network virtualization solution that addresses the growing demands of enterprise and public cloud infrastructures. With this collaboration, Pluribus Networks will deliver pre-validated and Red Hat-certified OpenStack-based Network-as-a-Service solutions for maximum ease of deployment among customers.
Additional benefits of the interoperability of Pluribus Networks Netvisor with Red Hat OpenStack include the ability to:
- Scale and rapidly deploy Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) private and public cloud environments;
- Easily and dynamically allocate compute, storage, and networking services throughout the entire network stack, from Layer 1 to Layer 7;
- Maximize use of available network connectivity and capacity with Layer 2 and Layer 3 Multi-pathing while improving resilience with a self-healing Fabric design;
- Offload the orchestration of individual network elements from the cloud management platform to achieve the Fabric-level abstraction of presenting virtual networks as single, big, logical switches to tenants.
"IT needs agility without the barriers of manual configuration and management of discrete network elements to enable cloud environments," said Radhesh Balakrishnan, General Manager, Virtualization at Red Hat. "Validation of the Red Hat OpenStack solution with the Pluribus Software-Defined Fabric will enable joint customers to use an open standards-based approach to automate their networks for Red Hat cloud deployments."
Red Hat OpenStack delivers a comprehensive cloud management platform comprised of all the core OpenStack services and gives IT professionals an easier way to deliver resources. Red Hat has been working with an early group of customers who have been strong advocates for a commercial release of OpenStack from Red Hat, and who have been instrumental in providing the feedback and testing required.
Pluribus Networks Netvisor is a programmable, distributed network operating system that runs on Pluribus Networks' highly-optimized Server-Switch™ hardware. Netvisor provides a platform for Fabric-based computing that enables applications to move into the network, and to serve both physical and virtual network infrastructure. The solution is highly modular and fault tolerant with a self-healing design that enables extremely-high operational flexibility and makes zero-touch provisioning of virtual networks and network services a reality.
"We are proud to demonstrate the interoperability of Netvisor with Red Hat OpenStack through the OpenStack Networking API," said Sunay Tripathi, Co-Founder and CTO at Pluribus Networks. "Pluribus believes that the network Fabric should be as programmable and open as a Server while offering the performance and visibility required to operate and troubleshoot at scale. Joint customers now have the programmability and hardware vendor independence of SDN on top of the benefits of cloud automation from Red Hat OpenStack."
