Planet3 Appoints High Tech High Founder and CEO Larry Rosenstock as Senior Education Advisor
Renowned Educator to Advise Company on Its Personalized Learning Platform
WASHINGTON, Aug. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Planet3, an exploration-based learning company, today announced that it has appointed Larry Rosenstock, J.D., M.Ed, L.H.D, the founder and CEO of High Tech High, as a senior education advisor to the Company. High Tech High, based in San Diego, California, is a nationally acclaimed network of public charter schools focused on project-based learning.
In his role as an education advisor to Planet3, Rosenstock will leverage his decades of education experience to advise on Planet3's instructional approach, with a focus on personalized, hands-on learning.
"We are honored to have an educational visionary such as Larry Rosenstock join Planet3 as an advisor," said Dr. Albert Yu-Min Lin, Ph.D., Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer at Planet3. "Larry is a pioneer and his experiences will help guide us as we continue to develop our platform. Planet3 was founded because we believe that the way to take on the challenges of our changing planet is to foster a generation of creative and entrepreneurial change agents, and integrating the best practices of blended and project-based learning luminaries such as Larry is critically important to that."
As an award-winning educator, Rosenstock brings decades of experience to his role as advisor for Planet3. Currently, he serves as CEO at High Tech High, where he is also a founding principal. Earlier in his career, Rosenstock taught carpentry in urban high schools for over a decade and served as Director of the Rindge School of Technical Arts and then Principal of Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. He went on to serve as the director of the New Urban High School Project, an effort funded by the U.S. Department of Education to develop new models for urban high schools. During his time with the New Urban High School Project, Rosenstock and his team created three design principles that seemed to be common in the successful urban high schools: personalization, real-world connection, and common intellectual mission. Those principles would later serve as the foundation for High Tech High. High Tech High Learning is an integrated network of schools spanning grades K-12, housing a comprehensive teacher certification program and a new, innovative Graduate School of Education.
Rosenstock has served as a lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Visiting Associate Professor at UC Berkeley School of Education. He is the recipient of the Ashoka Fellowship and the McGraw Prize in Education, and serves as an advisor to numerous commissions and boards nationally and internationally.
"I'm honored to serve as an advisor to Planet3," said Rosenstock. "Science should be fun and engaging, and students should be immersed in the real world of science. Unfortunately, most students in schools today are learning about science rather than doing real science themselves. Planet3 offers the potential to change that!"
Since 2014, Planet3 has brought on a host of world-renowned subject matter experts across education, science and technology industries to advise on various areas of the Company.
