Pheo Para Alliance And Havas Health Build Support For Awareness Of Rare Diseases With Pharma Challenge For Global Day Of Giving
The Group Encourages Funding on #GivingTuesday for Research to Help Find a Cure for the Extremely Rare Disorders Pheochromocytoma and Paraganglioma
NEW YORK, Sept. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- New York–based nonprofit organization Pheo Para Alliance and its associated group, Pheo Para Troopers, are partnering with Havas Health to join charitable organizations from around the world to mobilize supporters on #GivingTuesday. Havas Health is challenging the healthcare community and friends of the organization with a $10K matching grant—which will be paid to the charity when it has raised $10K, between now and 11:59 p.m. EST, Dec. 2, 2015, #GivingTuesday.
The Pheo Para Alliance will focus on gifts of $70 to honor its seven years of fundraising for public awareness and a cure for the extremely rare diseases. It will also welcome $7 gifts from friends who want to give a nod toward a cure. Twibbons of support will be available after the Sept. 24 "Spreading the Word" Pheo Para Alliance Gala and can be downloaded from twibbon.com/support/pheo-para-giving-tuesday-10k-2 so that donors and friends of the organization can spread the word on their social media accounts.
"We are very excited to connect our cause to the global mobilization of #GivingTuesday, and are so grateful to the support of our friends at Havas Health," said Timothy G. Rothwell, chairman of the board emeritus, Pheo Para Alliance. "This is a cause that is near to my heart and to the hearts of many others who have either been diagnosed with pheo or para or are the loved ones of those who have."
"We are pleased to be able to champion the Pheo Para Alliance and the dedicated people there who have been fighting for awareness and a cure for so long," said Donna Murphy, global CEO and partner, Havas Health. "Helping others through support and education is second nature to us at Havas Health, where health and wellness is our business."
The "Spreading the Word" Pheo Para Alliance Gala represents the organization's seventh annual event to benefit patients and their families. At the gala, representatives from the alliance will provide an update on the progress that has been made over the last year and provide an overview on the science behind the disease.
Pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma are related tumor-causing disorders that can affect anyone at any time. Though not necessarily cancerous, both pheo and para can develop into cancer, and those who are diagnosed with either of the diseases must have surgery to remove the tumor(s) and often must be monitored for several years to ensure that tumors have not returned.
