Personal Career Planning for Every College Student for Less Than the Price of a Textbook
CAMP HILL, Pa. and WILLIAMSBURG, Ky., June 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- With over 70 percent of students listing finding a job after graduation as the most important outcome of a college degree, and with the national student loan debt exceeding $1.3 trillion, the University of the Cumberlands, Williamsburg, KY, has partnered with Emerge Education, LLC, Camp Hill, PA, to provide one of the most aggressive and comprehensive career planning services in the nation. The service's one time, per-student cost to the institution is less than the price of a college textbook.
All newly enrolled freshman attending the University of the Cumberlands will receive an in-depth interview focusing on their chosen major, desired location of employment, first year salary expectations and projected employment trends in their field. As the student progresses through their degree program, a personal career planner is with them every step of the way, providing quarterly counseling sessions and helping the student build a portfolio of related experience.
Prior to graduation, the career planner is actively searching for future openings and contacting human resource departments in the area to arrange interviews for up to one year after graduation. The university plans to expand the service to its adult and online populations in early 2017.
Located in Williamsburg, Kentucky, the University of the Cumberlands is a leading private, non-profit university that understands the need for an institution to invest in long term solutions to address student outcomes. "We are excited to partner with Emerge Education," said Dr. Larry Cockrum, President. "This new career services initiative provides a unique and strategic opportunity to ensure our students are fully prepared for a successful job search upon graduation."
Emerge Education plans to launch the career service product to colleges across the country throughout 2016.
"If ever there was a need for an organization to develop an aggressive and comprehensive program to help prepare students for life after college, it is now, says Kim T. Coon, President and CEO of Emerge Education. "I commend Dr. Cockrum for his thoughtful leadership to provide this valuable service to the University's students, and pleased that he chose Emerge to launch this program."
