Performance Trust Investment Advisors (PTIA) Launches Total Return Bond Fund for Individual Investors
--Fund Strategy for Company's 1st Mutual Fund is Based on Proven Fixed-Income Methodology with Institutional Clients--
CHICAGO, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Performance Trust Investment Advisors, LLC (PTIA), an affiliate company of Performance Trust Capital Partners, LLC, today launched its first mutual fund, the Performance Trust Total Return Bond Fund (PTIAX).
PTIAX is a no-load fund that invests across diverse sectors of the fixed-income market using the Performance Trust Total Return™ methodology. The fund's objective is to purchase undervalued fixed-income assets and achieve investment returns from both interest income and potential capital appreciation, employing a strategy known as Shape Management®.
PTIAX invests in, but is not limited to, government and agency paper, and both agency and non-agency residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS). In non-agency RMBS, the investment focus is on first lien fixed-rate mortgages in the prime and Alt-A sectors. Prime represents the best mortgage loans and Alt-A is traditionally defined as a loan lacking full documentation.
Prior to launching PTIAX, PTIA has been a provider of limited partnership investment strategies in non-agency RMBS. A broader blend of fixed-income investments and a mutual fund format makes this investment approach available to a wider audience.
"There has been a growing demand from our banking clients to take our scenario-based Total Return methodology for the fixed-income market and deliver that proven strategy to their own clients who often are high net worth individuals," said Rich Berg, Chief Executive Officer at Performance Trust Capital Partners. "Offering a fixed-income bond fund to the investing public is the natural next step for us following the launch of our limited partnership investment strategies two years ago," he said. Performance Trust Investment Advisors manages in excess of $350 million.
The timing of the bond fund launch also offers the investing public an opportunity to take advantage of pricing inefficiencies in the mortgage-backed securities market, said Peter B. Cook, CFA, Chief Investment Officer of PTIA.
"While our new fund will invest in a variety of fixed-income instruments, we believe there is tremendous opportunity to find undervalued fixed-income assets in the prime and Alt-A mortgage securities sectors, which represent an estimated $1 trillion market," Cook said. "The mortgage market is not homogeneous. We find opportunities based on detailed analysis of loans, borrower profiles and behaviors and how the securities themselves are structured," he said.

Mutual fund investing involves risk. Principal loss is possible. Investments in debt securities typically decrease in value when interest rates rise. This risk is usually greater for longer-term debt securities. Investments in lower rated and non-rated securities present a greater risk of loss to principal and interest than higher-rated securities. Investments in asset-backed and mortgage-backed securities include additional risks that investors should be aware of such as credit risk, prepayment risk, possible illiquidity and default, as well as increased susceptibility to adverse economic developments. The fund may invest in Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) which involve additional risks such as declines in the value of real estate and increased susceptibility to adverse economic or regulatory developments. Derivatives involve investment exposure that may exceed the original cost and a small investment in derivatives could have a large potential impact on the performance of the Fund. Options and Swap positions held in the Fund may be illiquid and the fund manager may have difficulty closing out a position.
While the fund is no-load, management and other expenses still apply. Please refer to the prospectus for further details.
