Before the 9/11 Memorial opened in September 2011, Chief Technology Officer Sean Anderson was tasked with finding a business analytics solution to assess and track specific aspects of the Memorial's daily operations, including free visitor pass reservations, e-commerce, admissions screening and site capacity management. Anderson selected Pentaho Business Analytics because it is both powerful and affordable. Pentaho also met the Memorial's requirements for an end-to-end business analytics platform that included data integration to facilitate Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) from retail, e-commerce, free visitor pass reservation and admissions screening systems into a data warehouse, as well as analysis and reporting capabilities.
With help from Pentaho Professional Services, the Memorial's IT team deployed Pentaho in a matter of days. Now, Pentaho Data Integration loads information from the Memorial's four systems into the data warehouse every night, then automatically creates internal operations reports each day. Pentaho has streamlined this task from a painstaking two- to three-hour daily project for two people into an automated process with reports delivered every morning. Because Pentaho correlates the impact of the number of visitors with all its activities and commerce, Memorial management can now view specific operations data through a single lens.
"Our consultant from Pentaho Professional Services was extremely knowledgeable. He knew Pentaho inside out, and more importantly, he understood how best for us to use this technology to help improve aspects of our operations," said Sean Anderson, chief technical officer, National September 11 Memorial & Museum. "Pentaho has become a critical part of our application toolbox for data management."
"By providing visibility into all of the 9/11 Memorial's systems, Pentaho has helped create operational excellence and empowered employees and management to easily view all data through a single pane of glass," said Rosanne Saccone, chief marketing officer at Pentaho Corporation. "I am always impressed by organizations like the 9/11 Memorial that integrate business analytics at the core of their operations and make it a priority from the beginning. I am proud to see such a meaningful organization succeed using Pentaho."
