Pennsylvania Departments of Agriculture, General Services Report Successful Inspection, Improved Outcome for Capitol Cafeteria
No Violations Found During Feb. 24 Inspection
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- An unannounced inspection of the Capitol Cafeteria in Harrisburg found no violations and improved food safety conditions at the Aramark-leased operation, the departments of Agriculture and General Services reported today.
This inspection marks a systemic change in the daily operations of the main eating and drinking establishment in the state Capitol and the clean inspection report shows extensive efforts to address previous food safety violations found at the cafeteria in December and January are working.
"Improvements were evident during today's inspection and it is clear there are new systems in place to protect consumers at the Capitol Cafeteria. We will continue our unannounced monthly inspections into the summer to ensure that their staff remains vigilant about proper food safety and food handling procedures," Agriculture Secretary Russell C. Redding said. "Today's inspection report marks a shift in employee protocols and facilities management from the Aramark staff as well as the additional training provided by the Department of Agriculture for the front-line food handlers at the Capitol Cafeteria."
"We are very pleased with Aramark's progress," DGS Secretary James Creedon said. "We will continue to work with the company to ensure this consistent level of performance going forward."
The Department of Agriculture continues to call for the passage of House Bill 174, which would provide the department greater statewide authority when eating and drinking establishments are not being inspected, standardize inspections, make inspection reports from the state and local jurisdictions public on its Web site and more.
The most recent inspection report for the Capitol Cafeteria is available on the Department of Agriculture's Web site, www.agriculture.state.pa.us. Select "e-services" and click "Food Safety Inspection Results."
