TYSONS, Va., Nov. 20, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- PenFed Credit Union, the nation's second-largest federal credit union, today announced it was selected by VIQTORY Media as a top Military Spouse Friendly® Employer. The Military Spouse Friendly® Employers list is developed from public and government data sources and comprehensive survey responses from employers.
"Most Americans thank our nation's military and veterans for their service – but not all Americans appreciate the added value of military spouses in the workplace," said PenFed President and CEO and U.S. Army veteran James Schenck. "Military spouses bring many qualities to the workplace: loyalty, compassion, service, sacrifice and resilience. As a Military Spouse Friendly ® Employer, our challenge is to encourage other employers to overcome the obstacles to military spouse employment. Our ultimate goal is for all Americans to value military spouses as an outstanding pool of talent."
The VIQTORY Media survey questions, methodology, criteria, and weighting identify organizations that provide military spouses with the best career opportunities. The results are independently evaluated by Ernst & Young, a global research firm.
As part of an ongoing commitment to selecting and supporting military spouses, PenFed launched a Military Employment Program focused on supporting every phase of the employment lifecycle for all members of the military community including veterans, military and surviving spouses, wounded warriors and their caregivers, reservists and National Guardsmen. 3% of PenFed's approximately 2,500 employees identify as military spouses.
In addition to spending 25% of its recruiting budget on hiring from the military community, PenFed collaborates with dozens of military employment organizations, as well as dozens of installation Transition Assistance Program offices, to enhance military employment efforts. Currently, over 14% of PenFed employees have a personal or familial military affiliation.
PenFed has a strong legacy of being a military-friendly company. The credit union donates 2% of its annual net income to charitable organizations, with the majority going to military charities. The PenFed Foundation – PenFed's charitable arm – was created in 2001 and, since then, has provided more than $35 million in financial support to veterans, active-duty service members, families and caregivers. Those interested in supporting the PenFed Foundation's mission to help the military community and their support network are encouraged to visit penfedfoundation.org.
Members of the military community looking for meaningful careers are encouraged to join PenFed's Military Talent Pool.
