Pencils of Promise and Chegg Launch #GiveBackToSchool Scholarship Campaign
Social Media Campaign Provides Scholarships & Helps Send Up To 5,000 Students Back to School in Developing Nations
NEW YORK, Aug. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the non-profit organization Pencils of Promise ("PoP") and Chegg, The Student Hub, announced a partnership to help ensure that children throughout the world have access to a quality education. The scholarship campaign donations made possible by Chegg will help send up to 5,000 students in PoP's global partner network back to school by providing scholarships necessary to support their education. The scholarship programs will cover all school fees and include a backpack with supplies and a school uniform.
First days are magical – whether it's the first day of school, first day of a new internship, or first day in a new city. Between August 13th and September 30th, Chegg will donate $10 for every back to school or "first day" photo or video shared with #GiveBackToSchool on Facebook, Instagram, Vine and Twitter, up to 7,500 shares. In addition to partnering to fund the back to school campaign, Chegg has provided an upfront donation to Pencils of Promise that will finance the building of a school in one of PoP's partner communities, Guatemala.
To donate to the cause:
- Snap or find a photo or video of your favorite "first day"
- Tag the post with #GiveBackToSchool
- Share on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Vine, between 5am EDT on August 13th and 11:59pm EDT on September 30th
"Chegg and Pencils of Promise have a shared belief that all students should have access to a quality education, both in the US and abroad," said Heather Hatlo Porter, Manager of Philanthropy at Chegg. "This partnership is exciting because it not only provides students a safe place to learn, with the construction of a brand new school, it also gives them access to tools and resources they will need to continue to be lifelong learners."
"Every year of education means more opportunity and a brighter future. For too many children, that next year of school is out of reach," PoP's Chief Operating Officer, Melanie Stevenson points out. "By making a $100 gift, launching a group fundraising effort, or, thanks to Chegg, sharing your Back To School memories on social media, you can change that."
Campaign photos or videos that display #GiveBackToSchool will be included for the donation. One donation per person. Follow @PencilsOfPromis and @Chegg for campaign updates.
