Patrick Canning Named Managing Partner Of KPMG's Chicago Office
CHICAGO, June 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Patrick Canning has been named managing partner of the Chicago Office of KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax, and advisory firm, effective July 1, 2012.
Canning will be responsible for the strategic direction and growth of KPMG's Chicago office and will oversee the expansion of audit, tax and advisory services for KPMG's Chicago area practice. KPMG's Chicago's Office is the firm's second largest office, with more than 1,850 partners and employees. Canning succeeds Phil Rohrbaugh who has announced his plans to retire in 2012.
"Pat brings significant leadership experience to this role and has a proven track record of assisting many Fortune 1000 companies with their growth agendas and in working with mid-market, venture capital and private equity firms to achieve that next level of growth," said Rob Arning, KPMG's Vice Chair of Market Development. "We know that he will deliver our firm to the market very effectively."
Prior to overseeing the firm's Chicago Office, Canning was managing partner of the firm's Boston Office. He has more than 30 years of experience providing audit services to many Fortune 1000 multinational companies in a variety of industries, including food, beverage and consumer products, retail and electronics manufacturing sectors. He joined KPMG in 1981 and was admitted to the partnership in 1990. He is also a member of the firm's Emerging Business Opportunities Council.
"It is clear that companies are investing in their future and are focused on three critical business imperatives of growing their top line, transforming their operations, and complying with a changing regulatory environment," said Canning. "KPMG is a leader in providing services around all three of these areas. I look forward to working with our Chicago area partners and professionals to help our clients navigate today's business realities and adapt and thrive in this dynamic environment."
In addition to his experience serving global businesses, Canning also has significant experience working with venture capital and private equity firms and their portfolio companies. He recently led KPMG's opening of a satellite office in Cambridge, Massachusetts solely dedicated to serving emerging technology and life science companies. "KPMG is committed to helping emerging companies grow and be successful," said Canning. "Their success is vitally important to Chicago's future."
Active in the community, Canning looks forward to working with his colleagues in Chicago area charitable and civic affairs. He is currently Audit Committee Chair and Trustee for the Citi Center for the Performing Arts, Treasurer of Jobs for Massachusetts, Trustee for BUILD of Boston, Trustee for the New England Council, Chair of the Massachusetts Accountants Coalition, and a member of the Providence College President's Council.
"All of our employees are deeply committed to helping create a sustainable future for all of us," said Canning. "And I look forward to doing my part in extending our strong corporate citizenship program locally and helping to position our Chicago office as a leader and catalyst for positive change in the community."
Canning succeeds Phil Rohrbaugh who has served KPMG as Vice Chairman and Chicago Managing Partner for the past three years. His contributions include managing partner of the Philadelphia Office, serving as Vice Chair for Industries and Marketing, and a member of the firm's Management and Operations Committee.
Rohrbaugh joined KPMG LLP in 2002 after having served Arthur Andersen for 28 years where he held a number of key positions, including managing partner of several offices. Rohrbaugh will be working with Canning as he transitions into his new role and will continue to be active in various civic and charitable organizations like the Children's Memorial Hospital of Chicago.
