Patient Recruitment Company CSSi Generates Increases in Patient Screening and Enrollment in Phase 3 Alzheimer Study
GLEN BURNIE, Md., June 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- CSSi, the leader in patient recruitment solutions for the clinical research industry, recently partnered with a major pharmaceutical company to increase the rate of patient screenings and enrollment for an Alzheimer's disease study so that the study would close on time. CSSi was so successful at intervention through its patient enrollment and site performance program that 93% of sites supported by CSSi met or exceeded their goals. In 100% of the sites, the screening activity and enrollment rates increased over the results prior to CSSi's involvement. Recruitment activities at the site level generated an increase of 50% in screenings and a 38% increase in enrollment for sites that committed to working with CSSi.
CSSi was enlisted to boost screenings and enrollment because the study sponsor was experiencing a slow enrollment period. Sites were falling behind their enrollment timeline. Overall the sites were screening 37 patients (.49/site/month) and enrolling 12 patients (.16/site/month) per month. CSSi was tasked with increasing the screening and enrollment rate at sites so that the overall enrollment goals were met within their allotted timeline. In order to complete enrollment on time, CSSi was able to facilitate the screening and enrollment rates by two-fold.
Site performance has long been an industry issue typically with 20-30% of sites being high performers, while 20-30% of the sites will have very little or no enrollment activity. CSSi assessed all 75 sites to determine each of the sites' screening and enrollment challenges, classify the site's willingness to meet the enrollment goals, and to develop an enrollment plan for each site. Out of the 75 sites, 58 made commitments to meeting the enrollment goals by working with CSSi to expand and execute an enrollment plan of action. CSSi developed plans for each site that focused on three main areas of recruitment: patient database, outreach, and advertising (television, radio, direct mail, and internet).
CSSi was quickly able to engage directly with sites, revitalizing their commitment to the study and assisting study coordinators with keeping the study top-of-mind. The increase in screening and enrollment was specific to activities conducted only by the study coordinators who had defined a plan of action with CSSi; rates increased further when considering advertising and outreach activities.
CSSi was proud to assist this sponsor with meeting their study enrollment goal and also support sites with increasing their screening and enrollment rates by keeping the study top-of-mind.
