Over 6,000 physicians and other medical professionals have enrolled online to create a free Vivacare account to access hundreds of personalized patient education handouts and videos from reputable sources, including federal health agencies, professional organizations, patient groups and medical publishers.
When asked to rate specific features, physicians expressed appreciation for the ability to personalize the content with their name, print hard copies when needed, and display the patient education content on their own practice websites for easy access by patients and their families. Over 80% of respondents ranked each of these features as "high value" (4 or 5 on a 5-point scale). Other "high value" features include the ability to customize the content and make it available to patients without advertising.
Family physician Dr. Brynna Connor displays the Vivacare resources on her practice website and states that she "loves it". Cardiologist Dr. Purushotham Kotha states that Vivacare is an "excellent and quality service". Other physician commented that the content is "comprehensive" and has a "user-friendly interface", and that "customer support is exceptional!"
"Patients seek health information from the person they trust most with their health, their own doctor. But most physicians lack the time to provide educational resources during patient encounters", said Dr. Mark Becker, pediatrician and founder of Vivacare. "We are pleased to know that Vivacare is fulfilling its goal of making it easy for medical professionals to provide their patients with helpful health information that improves clinical care and patient satisfaction."
67 physicians completed the 7-question survey in May 2015. An invitation to participate in the survey was delivered to 2,082 physician users of the Vivacare service who had been enrolled at least 6 months. There was no reimbursement offered for participation.
In a 2011 survey published by Vivacare, 95% of physician users reported that the patient education service improves clinical care, patient satisfaction, and patient convenience. When asked how patients benefit from the service, doctors mentioned increasing their patients' understanding of treatment options (87%) and helping their patients to manage their condition (76%).
