Patagonia® St. Paul named a Silver Bicycle Friendly Business Award by the League of American Bicyclists
Local outdoor apparel company encourages others to bike to work
ST. PAUL, Minn., April 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- As businesses race to retrofit their buildings, streamline waste policies, and purchase more and more recycling bins, some companies have already targeted a free and easy way to be more environmentally conscious: bicycling.
This Earth Day, the League of American Bicyclists recognized the Patagonia St. Paul store with a Silver Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award for leading America toward a greener future.
With the announcement of 63 new BFBs today in 44 states and Washington, D.C., Patagonia St. Paul joins a visionary group of more than 500 local businesses, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies across the United States that are transforming the American workplace.
"More and more business leaders are realizing that bicycling is a simple and cost-effective way to move toward a more productive company," said Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists. "Promoting healthy transportation is increasingly attractive to employers and prospective employees – and it's moving America toward a more sustainable future."
St Paul Patagonia encourages bicycling as an easy option for transportation and provides amenities such as: on site shower for employees, a safe place to store employee and customer bikes, water bottle refills, tire pump, and small on site tool kit and incentives such as a reimbursement program for car pool or alternative transportation commuting for employees.
"We are healthier and happier when we get to spend the first and last hours of our day outside enjoying our community," states store manager, Ellen Grady.
Moving forward, Patagonia St. Paul will have access to a variety of free tools and technical assistance from the League to become even more bicycle-friendly. When our employees bike, great things happen: reduced carbon foot print, fewer cars in the neighborhood, healthier employees, increased self-confidence, we are taking real action to help make a difference in the health of our community, our Cities, and our planet.
