LADY LAKE, Fla., Feb. 19, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The Florida Department of Education, Division of Career & Adult Education, has determined that the PAHCOM Certification (Certified Medical Manager – Academic) linkage to the Lake Sumter State College Health Information Technology Program (Health Information Technology) did meet the following eligibility requirements and will be added to the 2018-19 Technical Skill Attainment Inventory:
- The requested certification or licensure is directly related to the expected learning outcomes of a career and technical education program and is considered occupationally specific.
- The requested certification or licensure requires a minimum 150 hours of instruction for secondary students; or 150 hours of instruction for students in postsecondary clock hour programs (unless the clock hour program is less than 150 hours); or the equivalent of 3 credit hours for students in postsecondary college credit programs.
- The evaluation instrument is a valid and reliable measurement.

The Professional Association of Health Care Office Management (PAHCOM) approved the Medical Office Management Technical Certificate Program, part of the Associate in Science (AS) in Health Information Technology Degree Program, offered by Lake Sumter State College to be included in the Academic Credentialing Program (ACP). The ACP requires a minimum of seven (7) of the Nine Domains of Medical Practice Administration be taught by the educational institution as part of their medical management program. Approved programs gain valuable benefits including certification eligibility, membership, discounts on industry resource materials, and access to professional networking.
Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) was established in 1962 and offers a high-quality education at an affordable price to the communities of Lake and Sumter counties. Since then, they have grown into a three-campus institution serving over 6500 students annually. This Medical Office Management Technical Certificate Program is designed to provide students with the skills necessary, or supplemental training, for employment in support of effective medical business operation. The ACP Host Course within the program is Internship in Health Information & Medical Offices, providing a combination of Certification Exam Preparation and onsite internship hours. Students receiving the Medical Office Management Technical Certificate are eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Manager – Academic (CMM-A) through PAHCOM.
