PA Insurance Department to Complete Consumer Services Reorganization Aug. 5 with Closing of Philadelphia Regional Office
HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- When the Pennsylvania Insurance Department closes its Philadelphia regional office on Aug. 5, the agency will complete a reorganization of its consumer services bureau that will save taxpayer funds while maintaining customer service.
"Modern technology allows us to quickly and effectively serve consumers via the Internet and telephone, which means it's no longer necessary to maintain expensive bricks-and-mortar regional offices," said Insurance Commissioner Michael F. Consedine. "Also, by centralizing our operations in a single office, we can streamline the consumer complaint process."
The Philadelphia office has had very little foot traffic from walk-in clients. The majority of its consumer work was already being conducted over the telephone.
The current phone number, 215-560-2630, will continue to work after Aug. 5 and without interruption. Calls will automatically transfer to consumer service representatives working in the Harrisburg bureau.
Offices in Erie and Pittsburgh were previously closed in order to streamline and centralize the consumer complaint process. The Philadelphia office closing is the final action to consolidate the consumer services unit in the Insurance Department's main office in Harrisburg.
