RIDGEFIELD, Conn., May 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Owl Computing Technologies, Inc., a cybersecurity solutions provider, is proud to announce that a global tier one oil and gas company has deployed a fully redundant Owl cybersecurity solution with load balancing. This enterprise wide solution serves a large number of plants and facilities dispersed over a large geographic area. The scalability and flexibility of the Owl Perimeter Defense Solution (OPDS) permitted the customer to deploy the same security policies across a variety of plant sizes and protect the corporate enterprise as well.
The solution uses Owl's standard perimeter defense product line with hardware enforced one-way DualDiode® Technology. This solution protects the plant industrial control systems from cyber-attack, verifies only permitted data is released from the plants for remote use, and insures only authorized data is accepted into the corporate networks. This implementation restores data flows between the plants and the corporate network after air gaps were instituted to protect from attack. The customer is also utilizing the native capability of OPDS to transfer syslog network health messages, thereby providing network management information for remote network monitoring.
A key element was the implementation of the market-leading Owl PI (OSIsoft) Transfer Service (OPTS) application. OPTS replicates PI data from the plants to the corporate office allowing secure and efficient sharing of critical plant operation data with plant personnel and corporate end-users. The high-availability implementation included redundant Owl perimeter defense solutions at the plant sites, Owl Performance Management Service applications at two separate data centers for geographic redundancy, redundant Owl security solutions at the two data centers, and a Load Balancing and Failover solution in each data center to manage data flow and redundant PI Historians.
This is one of Owl's newest energy industry customers. And while this robust, enterprise wide solution protects 70 isolated enclaves and enables redundant, secure centralized monitoring, it was implemented just nine months after purchase order acceptance.
"This is a comprehensive solution and really demonstrates how important redundancy is in cybersecurity design to maintain plant reliability and availability," said Dr. Ron Mraz, President & CEO of Owl. "The security attributes of data diodes have been essential to military and intelligence operations for many years. Critical infrastructure providers now recognize the benefits to their operations and are making data diodes an integral part of their cybersecurity designs."
