Over 100,000 Students Will Take a Stance Against Bullying in October through Be Kind® STICK TOGETHER®
Anti-Bullying Program, Presented by Duck Tape® and Project Love®, Provides a Unique Way for Students to Combat Bullying and Negative Behaviors in National Bullying Prevention Month
CLEVELAND, Oct. 3, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- It's an unfortunate fact: one out of every four students is bullied throughout the school year. And whether at school or online, bullying can result in tragedies such as youth suicide, school shootings and more. However, several concerned organizations are coming together to make a change. In October, National Bullying Prevention Month, more than 100,000 students in 350 schools across the United States will take part in Be Kind® STICK TOGETHER®, an anti-bullying program presented by Duck Tape® and Project Love®. The program is FREE to schools and provides a fun and different way for students to learn the concepts of kindness and sticking together to combat bullying and negative behaviors.
Supported by the Ohio Education Association, Be Kind® STICK TOGETHER® takes a unique approach to bullying prevention. Its goal is to stop bullying before it starts by empowering students to always lead with kindness, caring and respect FIRST. It combines large group discussion, videos, hands-on activities and a writing exercise to keep students interested and engaged. Duck Tape and Project Love provide each school with the tools needed to execute the program, and the lesson culminates with students pledging to "stick together" as they write their individual names on pieces of Duck Tape® and post them together on a banner. The adhesive qualities of a strip of Duck Tape symbolize the strength students can possess when they "stick together" and help one another. After the program, the banner is displayed prominently in the school as a constant reminder to be kind, caring and respectful to others.
"We're grateful to work with Duck brand on this crusade to put an end to bullying," said Stuart Muszynski, President & CEO, Values-in-Action Foundation (Project Love). "Kids are able to easily understand our message through the visual storytelling we're able to do with Duck Tape. We hope our message 'sticks' with them for years to come."
Emmy-award winning news veteran Denise Dufala serves as Be Kind STICK TOGETHER's National Program Ambassador. Dufala spent 30 years as a news anchor and reporter at the CBS affiliate in Cleveland, Ohio, and has recently released her first children's book, "Bomba the Brave," which coordinates with the Be Kind STICK TOGETHER program. The story is about a bunny named Bomba who, after getting his new glasses, finds himself being teased by the big school bully. "Bomba the Brave" sends a BE GOOD and DO GOOD message, showcasing the character and values that parents and teachers strive to instill in today's children such as courage, compassion, kindness, honesty and tenacity with a message all kids enjoy. Proceeds from the sale of the book support the Be Kind STICK TOGETHER program.
Be Kind STICK TOGETHER starts an important conversation about the importance of kindness, caring and respect to eliminate bullying in our children's schools. The kind of country and world that we collectively build depends in large part on our children, how they treat others and how they exhibit leadership and build relationships. Let's stick together!
