DENVER, June 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Ladies and gentlemen…start your engines! Outdoor Sportsman Group–Networks has plans to create a Friday Night "Power Hour" programming block featuring motorsports-related shows in 2017.
After Outdoor Sportsman Group–Networks CEO and President Jim Liberatore reconnected with industry friend and motorsports producer, Rich Christensen (PINKS, PINKS: ALL OUT, Pass Time and Drag Race High), the pair discussed the idea of creating future motorsports programming for Outdoor Channel's successful Friday night schedule.
"Since experiencing tremendous success with our Monday Night programming theme featuring syndicated acquisition Duck Dynasty, along with other outdoor lifestyle and adventure-related shows, we decided to investigate the prospect of creating a motorsports theme for Friday nights," said Liberatore. "There is a strong connection between outdoor enthusiasts and motorsports enthusiasts. I'm trusting Rich's team to deliver exciting and compelling content that our viewers will enjoy and connect with."
While total "cable plus" homes have declined -2% from last year (down two million homes), Outdoor Channel is defying the overall trend by increasing its number of subscriber homes +9% from one year ago (up 3.2 million homes). This result makes Outdoor Channel the sixth fastest growing cable network in subscriber growth in 2016.
Christensen plans to pursue limited series, specials and automotive game shows in the first year. "Jim bought the original PINKS show from me when he was President of Speed Channel," said Christensen. "I've been trying to find a way to work with him again for the past 10 years. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity."
The Outdoor Channel's Motorsports "Power Hour" is slated to launch in the first quarter of 2017.
