Oscar Nominee Morgan Spurlock's Startup, Speakizi, is Expanding Its Activities in the US and Raising Funds from a Series of Well-known Investors
TEL AVIV, Israel, March 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Speakizi, a sharing platform for lectures and recreational activities, is raising funds from tycoon Matthew Bronfman, Eyal Waldman, founder and CEO of the high-tech company, Mellanox, and a number of other business and technology investors. The company's first round of financing will be used to expand its activity in the US and Europe.
Speakizi was established several months ago by Neta Zwebner and Daniel Magriso. Zwebner is a film and television producer whose films were featured at some of the leading film festivals around the world, such as Sundance, Tribeca and Cannes. Morgan Spurlock, one of the world's leading directors of documentaries and the man behind "Super Size Me," who joined the company as a shareholder, said today that "Providing direct access for millions of people to the content market of experiences and lecturers is a game changer, and I'm excited to be a part of it."
Speakizi, based on the principle of the sharing economy, generates a "marketplace" of lecturers, entrepreneurs, studio owners and a wide range of activities and essentially makes it available for anyone – private individuals or companies, to order high-quality content directly from the website, at prices of up to $3,000 in the US.
Matthew Bronfman says, "We believe that Speakizi will soon become a global market leader in its field."
"The sharing economy is conquering all aspects of life, Speakizi managed, in a short period of time, to bring popular lecturers from diverse fields into the living rooms of thousands of Americans, without intermediaries or agents. I believe that not before long, this will be the way we garner experiences, both as a society and as individuals," added Eyal Waldman, the founder and CEO of Mellanox.
Speakizi has already recruited hundreds of lecturers and "experience providers" from around the world offering their unique and interesting content to individuals and companies, among them Max Lugavere ("Brain and Cognition"), the mediation guru Emily Fletcher, who undertook the first Internet based meditation exercise in the world and more.
As mentioned, Speakizi is now underway and launching its official activity in New York. The platform is expected to later expand its activities to other cities in the US and Europe.
Neta Zwebner, CEO of Speakizi says "A few months ago we identified a trend of searches for alternative and unique content that can reach the office or home – Everything from office happy hours and team building exercises to dinner parties and birthdays, and all this at a reasonable price with minimum effort. We discovered that a huge number of people have exceptional stories and experiences they want to share, and on the other side there are those who want to hear them. We are the grassroots version of TED."
